All Battlefield progress lost when unlinking PSN account from same EA account

So about a month ago I unlinked my PSN account from my EA account in order to try and access Skate 3's online. While it worked for a bit, I thought it would be okay to re-link my accounts again, so I did. Ever since then I haven't been able to fully access Skate 3's online (Teams and skate.feed aren't working and I get a message saying "Problem connecting to EA online service).

But apart from that issue (which I hope can be resolved for me), I found out that all my progress for numerous Battlefield games was completely reset.

I went onto Battlefield 3 like two weeks ago and saw that my rank and all my progress was back to zero. I thought it was an issue with the game, so I restarted the game and the issue was still there. I then went onto my PS4 to check if it had affected any of my other Battlefield games and it did. My progress on Battlefield 4 and 1 have been completed reset back to the beginning, even though I've poured in hundreds and maybe a couple thousand of hours into all these games and got lots of progress and a high rank. I'm not sure about Battlefield V/5, since I don't have that game installed on my console at the moment, but I can only assume that my progress there has been reset as well. However, my progress on Battlefield 2042 remains and I still have all my unlocks, progression and rank on there.

I spoke with an EA advisor or online chat support and they pretty much said they can't do anything and that all my progress is lost, so essentially they were useless for helping me with my situation. I've read posts on this forum and other people's issues and their issues generally relate to them linking a different EA account to their console account and losing all progress. Once they were able to link their old/original EA account to their console account, they got their progress back.

I haven't seen anyone have an issue such as mine, where I've unlinked my PSN account from my EA account and then re-linked the two accounts again and still lost all my progress. In short, I haven't changed anything or used a different account, the email I use for my EA account is the same as my PSN account and I have never linked a different EA account to my PSN account nor a different PSN account to my EA account. The two accounts have always been linked together and the same. As soon as I unlinked the accounts and then re-linked them, all my progress was gone. And yes, I understand that I've read the disclaimer for unlinking accounts, but it is completely unfair that I've now lost thousands of hours because of clicking a button. It makes me wonder what the point is of even having the ability to unlink the accounts in the first place if you're just going to lose all your progress regardless of it being the same account or not.

Please resolve this issue for me and restore all my progress, this seems to be a very unique issue from others.

    Hey there @MidnightProfitt

Sadly EA Help was correct when they said there was nothing they can do. When you unlink an an account you lose all in game progress as pointed out in this article

"When you unlink a platform account from your EA Account, you can link it to another EA Account, but your in-game progress won’t transfer over. "

I know it's not what you're hoping to hear but unfortunately that is the case

  • Yeah but from what I've read from others, they said once you link your EA account to the email it was originally linked to, then your progress is kept. In my case, I've never linked my EA account to another email and just linked it back to my original email.

So you're still telling me that all my progress is lost, even though the disclaimer states that if you link it to another email then your progress won't transfer over? Why is the option of unlinking your account even available if you just lose all your progress regardless?

The quote you've placed here doesn't even apply to my situation since all I've done is unlink my account and then link it back to the SAME email address and same EA account. In theory, that should mean that my progress should stick with my account, but instead I've lost everything. Can you explain this better to me please?

    @MidnightProfitt

While I understand it may have worked for some others unfortunately that isn't always the case.

    To clarify a little bit:

Progress is stored on the EA account level, not on individual platforms like PlayStation, Xbox, Steam, etc and so any time a platform is unlinked, it loses that progress which would be why your progress no longer appears.

While that progress can sometimes be restored by re-linking the platform to the same EA Account in some cases, that's not always possible. This is mentioned in the warning that must be accepted before any unlink is possible, but you can also read through this page for those details ,this is the same link as the one I provided above.

From the sounds of things you've re-linked your EA account to the platform it was originally linked to, but I'm afraid if that didn't result in the progress being restored, that would be permanently lost and not something we have any ability to manually correct sadly.

I know this isn't the answer you were hoping for and I'm sorry we can't help further.

  • Well that's an absolute shame and completely disheartening to hear.

It's unbelievable that something like this can happen when it technically shouldn't even be the case.

I've now lost thousands of hours of progress all because of a fault in this system which is insane to me. I would've thought that I could unlink and re-link my account with no issues, but unfortunately, something as simple as that can never be so easy.

I hope you're able to help push this issue to the higher ups at EA if possible because it is completely unfair to millions of gamers out there to have a feature within the EA system that could involuntarily reset people's progress. I may not be able to ever get my progress back, but this shouldn't be an issue that others should have to go through, so I hope that this issue gets brought up within EA so that others won't run into this problem in the future.
