Back to Basics, Battlefield 1

Product: Battlefield 1
Platform:Microsoft XBOX One
Summarize your bug Back to Basics allowing cheaters/ guns not meant for the game mode
How often does the bug occur? Every time (100%)
Steps: How can we find the bug ourselves? Play a game of Back to Basics, and you will see that Assault class can still use the Frommer Stop Auto, and Support can use the tanker carbines. Only standard issue rifles should be allowed.
What happens when the bug occurs? Players are allowed to use guns that are not supposed to be allowed on Back to Basics servers, giving them an unfair advantage, and defeating the purpose of that server type.
Please select your region North America
In what game mode did the bug occur? Conquest
AMD or Nvidia Model Number Xbox One standard
Enter RAM memory size in GB Xbox One standard

Back to Basics is a great game mode that replaces all primary weapons with standard issue rifles for a more historically accurate experience. However, there is currently a bug which allows the Assault and Support class to use automatic and semi automatic primary weapons, giving them an unfair advantage over other players, and defeating the purpose of the game mode. It would be so simple for EA to fix this. Please do so, so that this game mode can be enjoyed as intended.

Absolutely. Don't know how this slipped by Dice, but the servers are full of people shooting automatic pistols and revolver rifles at each other. Totally kills the point of Back to Basics.
  • This is tracked, I believe. Cause of the bug would be the fact that Pilot/Tanker weapons have recently become available for Assault/Support, but they were not adjusted for B2B, as, before introduction of those guns to Support/Assault, there was no need to disable them (as planes and tanks were blocked anyway). I imagine that being the reason why pistol carbines, Frommer Auto and sawed-off slipped into this mode.

Please excuse my ignorance. What does tracked mean? Does that mean Dice is aware and will fix it soon? I really hope they do before it becomes unfeatured. Back to Basic servers are almost always empty, and it's my favorite mode. Really the only reason I came back to BF1 this week.

  • I guess people use this "Back to basic" server to do their dog tags.

I know what I'm saying doesn't help for issue but it explain why people are doing it.

  • When you hear that the bug is tracked, it means that it's known and, at very least, the Quality Assurance team is investigating. It doesn't always mean that it will be fixed in the future - fix might be heavily delayed in two cases:

    a) If there is no reliable way of reproducing the bug/the fix is particularly complicated in terms of changes that have to be applied. Revive bug or Operations end screen bug are two good examples. Those often are high on priority list, but simply are way more challenging than typical bugs

    b) If bug priority is low. It's the most common if the bug has very low severity (especially when it's easy to bypass). Let's think about it logically: if you have, let's say, 3 bugs that heavily hurt the game and 3 that barely do anything, you would obviously prioritize the major ones.

On this one, I believe it's more on the major issue side, so I could see it being fixed soon-ish if BF1 patches continue (maybe in the next update if we get one, who knows) - cause of the issue is known and quite straightforward. While I know it was technically detected before update from July 31st, I'm fairly sure that it wasn't fixed mostly because it was spotted when certification process for the update already was very advanced.

I believe the reason the Frommer Stop Auto is Available in Back to Basics is because in Back to Basics all weapons are banned except for standard issue rifles and pistols. I believe the game classifies the Frommer Stop Auto as a pistol. I don’t think the game can filter out all the pilot/ tanker weapons because most of them are just modified pistols and that’s what the game classifies them as. I can support this theory of mine with the sawed off shotgun. The sawed off shotgun is banned in Back to Basics because the game classifies it as a shotgun which is banned. I am still unsure about how the other non-pistol pilot/ tanker weapons are getting through. Maybe the game classifies them as pistols too? I’m not sure

  • Actually, Frommer Stop Auto is treated as a member of a separate weapon group - pistol carbine. All the Pilot/Tanker weapons except sawed-off are considered pistol carbines - be it Frommer Stop Auto or Support-available options like C96 Carbine, P08 Artillerie, M1911 Extended etc. Pistol carbines were not on banned weapon list, because before recent update they only were available for Pilot and Tanker - two classes you can't spawn as in Back to Basics. As a reason, there simply was no reason to ban them, as no-one would be able to access them anyway... until recent patch. It's basically an oversight (and it certainly is not intentional).
