Battlefield 6 and soldier classes

Hi!

I have few ideas for developers to consider for soldier classes. They're pivotal point for organising roles of soldiers on the field.

  1. Soldier classes should have distinguishable combat role i.e own unique equipment and gadget arsenal excluding sidearms, melee and grenades. No cross-over roles in gadgets or primary weapons. Encourage players to finding synergy between roles.
  2. Soldier classes should have their own unique distinguishable look and voice. Like in Bad Company 2 where they've military look but you were able to distinguish class from another.
  3. Soldier classes could be balanced asymmetrically — infantry and vehicle slayer classes equipped with body armour and extra explosives but lacking in stamina and health regeneration speed.
  4. Each class could have different base statistics where they excel at and where are their weaknesses. Base stats in areas such as sprint speed, ammo count, suppression, explosive resistance, health regeneration rate, stamina, detectability, spotting duration, suppression resistance etc.
  5. These areas could be covered in individual soldier classes:
  • Assaulting a position and getting upper-hand in said position. Carrying assault and battle rifles.
  • Healing, reviving and boosting team mates battle status. Carrying carbines.
  • Resupplying, fortifying and firesupporting from a position. Carrying machine guns.
  • Destroying vehicles, installations, commander assets and fortified positions. Carrying shotguns.
  • Route trapping vehicles, repairing vehicles, defusing explosives, re-using defused enemy explosives and rebuilding structures. Creating safe spawn points for a squad and team. Carrying submachine guns and machine pistols.
  • Infiltrating enemy positions by makeshift pathways, gathering infantry intel by interrogatoring and proximity scanners, denying and disinforming enemy intel by jammers and decoys. Carrying sound suppressed personal defense weapons.
  • Providing marksman support for HVT elimination, denying infantry routes near your location via AP traps, getting camouflaged to enemy scanners by ghillie suit and provide laser designator targets for your team. Carrying designated marksman rifles and sniper rifles.

@Estynytapa_Haiku Hey there, really appreciate you giving us the detailed feedback and suggestions. I'll be happy to pass it on
  • As someone with over 1000 hours in BF4 who still actively plays several times a week. I wholeheartedly disagree with #1. This is suggesting the route of having Operators that most modern FPS games have moved to.

The concept of operators have ruined FPS games. Classes in BF3 & BF4 were designed very well. Some limitation of weapons or gadgets makes sense between classes (a recon player wouldn't carry an RPG for example). However, for the most part I want to be able to build out my characters load out in a way that fits my play style.

  • @Estynytapa_Haiku I think what they are doing with the MH-60 blackhawk helicopters are great! Really really hoping to see it come into play with the next battlefield dropping. Also, emphasis on HC mode with the compass involved. I believe they had a great system in BF3 for that and the way to customize everything on your screen gameplay with the different ways to setup your controls to as how you see fit. Really looking forward to these changes if they make it to the next game.

Call of Duty has had a create a class type of play style customisation which imo poisoned class system and team play idea when introduced in Battlefield. What you are suggesting is exactly what you are disliking i.e customized operators :D

Thanks 🙏🏻 I feel you will able to see that what you were doing right in past with classes (in Battlefield 2, Bad Company 2 and Battlefield V pre-launch) were best of iterations.

I agree with you 100 %. I can see you are truly a veteran player, like so many of us who grew up with BF series. It means alot to me,  the feedback you provided.

From other topic and credit to this person for mentioning this !

    THIS from BMARZANO554 :

Gets a little annoying when you're using a mounted machine gun and you pump someone with 20 bullets like they got hit with a water gun but in reality they would be sawed in half. Something you could consider bringing back is distant killing from Battlefield 1 if you had a sniper rifle depending on the distance you could one shot people that's pretty realistic especially they had no body armor back then and I'm pretty sure if anyone took a 50 cal or a 338 to the chest they're not going to be living.

    100% 1000% 1000000000000% YES !

Hi there and thanks for understanding ✌🏻 Really appreciate it! I've have been playing franchise actively since I got PlayStation 3 around Bad Company 2's days. I'm very fond of Battlefield's grateful history which I was not part of back in days but read forums and watched PC veterans telling all about it on YouTube and Battlefield Wikia.

I sincerely hope DICE can bring us joy and long-standing enjoyment with next iteration.

  • Alternatively, if you want to promote Squad leader and Commander roles, this class system could go little changes as of following.

    • Squad leader and Commander getting access to spawn control tools and binoculars which they can use to issue orders and call-in resources. They would carry carbines for self-defense.
    • Medic would get access to assault rifles and assault to battle rifles.
    • Engineers could be able to build emplacement weapons like AT or AA launchers or similar guns and heavy machine gun nests.
