Bf3 rarely lets me join an online game.

Once in a while, I get to join a game online. For the most part, the game manager gets to the "Connecting" point, then just hangs. The computer doesn't lock up. It just sits. Occasionally, the game manager gets to the "Loading level" point, then sits. It's very frustrating. When it connects, the game works well. Most of the time I don't get to play. It may also be possible that I have settings that are set incorrectly. I don't know. BF2 worked wonderfully on my old computer, and I am very eager to really get into BF3.

I would sincerely appreciate any help that anyone may be able to offer.

I thank you kindly for your time, and attention.

  • What happens if you try playing campaign? Does that work fine?

Have you updated your graphic card to the latest drivers?

I haven't tried to play campaign recently. Only online multi-player. When I make it into a game, it works well. I just don't make it into games very often.

  • What platform are you playing on? It sounds like PC. This also sounds like it's an issue with your ports, at least possibly. Just in case, try this.

If you are playing on PC, please enable the following online ports on your connection:
    TCP: 80, 443, 9988, 20000-20100, 22990, 17502, 42127
    UDP: 3659, 14000-14016, 22990-23006, 25200-25300

If you are playing on PS3, please enable the following online ports on your connection:
    TCP: 80, 443, 9988, 10000-10100, 17502, 42127
    UDP: 3659, 14000-14016

If you are playing on Xbox 360, please enable the following online ports on your connection:
    TCP: 53, 88, 3074
    UDP: 53, 88, 3074

For specific instructions on how to open your ports, please visit http://www.portforward.com/ or contact your router manufacturer.

Apologies. I am playing on PC.  And I also missed the word "link"...

  • If you're not sure how to set it up, you can contact your router manufacturer or your isp. portforward.com is great though because you just select your router model and enter what ports you need and it does it for you.
