BF4 Multiplayer

How can I play online with my friend without joining a session already in progress. What happens when I invite him he never can join because the server is full. Or if he can join we're on opposite teams. We spent 30 minutes trying to join a full session. Please be specific. I want to play with my friends, not strangers.
