BF4 Steam: Error Code 1 Can't Join Servers + Launch Issue

Hi everyone, I just got into Battlefield 4 and have been trying to play with some buddies but I've run into some weird issues.

When I start the game and try to join anything from the server browser, I have issues similar to this thread about BF4 Error Code 1 where I try to join any server via the server browser, wait awhile, then it says I lost connection to the session. It freezes in the top right saying "Joining Server" afterwards and won't let me try to join another server from that state. I could try to queue again by starting a Quickmatch search, cancelling it, then trying to join again via the server browser but it ends at the same result. Quickmatch does work after 5-7 attempts but usually places me in a completely empty DICE server.

A solution that worked for a little bit was to join servers exclusively through Squad Join with my friends, but that doesn't work anymore.

Following the solutions that EA_Atic posted in the linked thread, I've tried:

  • Verifying game files via Steam
  • Launching BF4 + Origin as administrator
  • Reinstalling via steam
  • Reinstalling and playing via Origin in a different SSD
  • Joining from the Battlelog webapp
  • Port forwarding UDP 3625
  • Clean booting from EA's instructions + reinstalling (after which my steam install won't launch anymore)
  • Making a different windows admin account and playing through there

The only one that got me into a match was when I made a different windows acct. I was able to join into a server but as I typed to my friend that finally my solution worked... I got kicked by Punkbuster (???) and now I can't join on that Windows account either. It's stuck on the "joining server" problem that I originally started with.

Soo... I'm completely stumped. Does anyone have any other solution under the sun to try? I can post files or screenshots if you guys think it would help. I'm running on Windows 10.

I've been playing for years (On Origin so no Steam involved) and this exact same issue started for me today

  • @RUMPLE9 That sucks. Yeah it started out of nowhere for me after only a few days of playing well. I had installed the game on a whim like 9 months ago and I didn't have any connection problems.

Hopefully you're not as lost a cause as me though. Did you try the solutions that I tried?
