Black screen exiting game

Running latest version of Origin. Latest drivers. Windows 10 Pro. 4790k and GTX 970.

Upon exiting Dragon Age Origins, I frequently get a black screen, where all I can do is hit the power button. This has been a long-standing issue for me. It's not even confined to this one game, though it does it more often with this game. It has also happened with the Mass Effect games, and BF4.

This is a fresh install of Windows. Not a computer noob here. The only thing I can imagine is that it might have something to do with running 2 screens at once. My main monitor is 1080p and connected via HDMI, and the other is an old Dell connected via DVI that I use to just mainly have up a mumble window or a browser or something while I game on the main screen.

  • Hello @Malkus74

I am really sorry for those issues. Can you also try to turn off Origin in-game option for those titles and in the general Origin Client settings.

Keep me posted on your progress.

    Cheers,

  • @Malkus74 interesting issue you have but no fun to fix. I have a win10 enterprise on a spare SSD I play with when bored to see how well I can lock it down and turn off the big brother spy crap in win10 lol. Anyway one thing I did learn in win10 is it has mega issues still with more then 1 screen as the rig I test win10 on is connected to 3 screens all the same. What went down for me was the screen resolution on 1 or 2 screens went way small could not fix it.....the fix was turn off PC unplug screens from PC and wall for 1 min plug them back in and boot up and fixed.

With your issue I am thinking like you this is due to 2 different screens with 2 different connections :/ Just for testing on this I would remove the dell screen and see if you get the same issue after a game. If you have not tried this already. All 3 of my screens are the same and connected with DP cables and win10 gave my 3 screens issues. So  my gut says this is a win 10 issue due to 2 different screens with 2 different connections. In the weeks I have spent testing and playing in win10 this OS is not fully stable or fully good to go yet and this is why I test on a spare SSD so I do not have to reinstall win8.1 when fed up lol.

  • @EA_Archi @Malkus74  Good point this could do it :]  But just to add turn off cloud storage as well when in this area as cloud storage makes issues as well.

  • I turned off Origin in-game, and ran and shut down the game(Dragon Age, that is) 10 times. And it shut down correctly each time. So, I am going to cautiously say that this is likely the answer. If it happens again, I'll update this thread. Thanks folks.
