Black screen no icon in the game launcher - how many years and still an issue

Title says it all.

Opening battle packs is dark. Like someone has turned the lights off and you can just make out the jimmybar / crowbar opening the chest. No Icon displayed on the weapon and gadgets etc.

Gone through and tried all the fixes from reddit, EA forums etc and still get the black screen, no icons etc in the game launcher for BF1. Funny thing is, if I load BF4 and then go into BF1 from the launcher and search around the soldier stats, loadouts, weapon and gadgets and assignments all works. As soon as I load the BF1 "game", still via launcher, after clicking a menu or 2, black screen no icons again.....

I see this happens on some console platforms too going by the forums I stumbled on.

Is there an actual fix out there or is this all on EA/DICE?

    Thanks,

Deleted EA app, the game and all its residual folders after posting and issue happened straight away.

Try deleting the twinkle folder in Documents\Battlefield 1

Tried this one. Once I go into say weapons and gadgets, it shows all the icons etc, then I scroll down, no icons. I scroll back up and the ones previously showing now disappeared. Enter multiplayer and black screen / black background etc

I had the black menu bug once years ago. Eventually it fixed itself once DICE released a new UI update for the main menu.

Usually when there's a new UI update you'll see a popup window advertising BF6 or some other EA advertisement. Make sure to click the close button to close the popup advertisement window.

That's what fixed the black menu bug for me.

If you have a friend with Battlefield 1 you can ask them to upload their twinkle folder to you. It contains all the main menu UI files. Replacing those files might fix it if you don't want to wait for DICE to release a new main menu UI update.

The strange thing about this bug is it only affects certain players, not everyone. I think the bug happens when the in-game advertisement popup window isn't closed correctly. So the game keeps trying to launch the popup window which causes the black main menu screen. Every time I see a popup window in BF1 I immediately close the window and don't click on the advertisement because I'm afraid it will black screen bug the main menu again.

I'll install it on my sons PC and give this a shot.

I don't think it will work unless you use a different EA account. You're EA account is bugged and will keep downloading the same UI update files into the twinkle folder.

That's what I meant by asking a friend to upload their twinkle folder to you, because they have a different EA account that's not bugged.

Or just wait for DICE to release another UI update.

Yep, didn't work. If fact, made the black screen occur straight away instead of after a minute / clicking through a few menus.

I'll see if he will download it on his account and try copy again.

  • Would be nice if someone from EA/Dice could chime in on this.

10+ years and issues still happens for many users and no actual fix provided. There are some forums from 5 years ago I stumbled on where someone from EA/DICE or whome ever at the time,  said "Fixed in next update", but, here we still are.....
