Just had this problem. Had me stumped for a couple of days. EA support in the forums was not very helpful ( as ever.. EA, you really could do better there... ).
Found the weirdest cause for it - thought I'd mention it for others having the problem.
Check your time and date, especially the year, on your computer.
Having the wrong time/date WILL cause this problem. Setting the time/date correctly ( someone set the PC to 2002 instead of 2012 ) WILL CAUSE ORIGIN TO FAIL EVERY TIME WITH NO REASON. at least it did for me.
I even packet sniffed the connection between the Origin server and PC to troubleshoot - all that told me was that the application was communicating with the server correctly, but the application was failing for it's own reasons. It was only when I noticed the time/date on a warning from a website certificate issue that I realized my PC had the wrong time/date.
Fixed it and tried Origin - Straight in ! 🙂
Don't know how many others are affected by this, but it's a simple fix and really easy to check. If it's a time/date error affecting most people, as I suspect, then it's a major bug for EA not to know this and it needs to be fixed. People's PCs lose the time and date all the time...
Hope this helps 🙂
