Connection issues / Multiple clients

try adding this argument to the launch of the game:
+clientport 2xxxx ((number between 20000-29999))

Make each computer different.

I think it can also be done from the registry if it doesn't accept them as launch arguments from Origin.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > SOFTWARE > Microsoft > Windows > CurrentVersion > GameUX > Games 

One of those will be BFH

Something like that.  I don't have the game installed where I'm at so that was a half guess.

Normally what's happening is that your router in certain situations (in this case BF:H) is having trouble routing traffic between two clients to the same server using the same ports.

Depending on the type of router all kinds of solutions/workarounds have been found, like:

• Power cycling all network equipment
• Turning off/on UPnP in your router.
• Turning off UPnP in windows:
  Press: Windows-button a window should pop up. Write: “services.msc” (without the “) then press enter.
  In the list of services, scroll down to “UPnP Device Host”, click it and press “Stop service”. Now do the same thing but with the service “SSDP Discovery”.
  Exit the window and go to control panel-> Network and Internet-> Network and Sharing Centre-> Change advanced sharing settings (to the left)-> Under “network discovery” select to turn off network discovery
• Turning off DHCP server in router and manually assigning IP's

Personally I prefer getting a proper router and installing a custom firmware to get rid of the horrible stock firmware. I personally use DD-WRT on my router.

i do have upnp disabled on both the router and both machines already, i however did not have the client port launch argument set yet, i will do so now.

If there is a custom firmware for it, i am not aware of it, wouldnt even know where to look lol, i am unfamiliar with DHCP, but im assuming thats what assigns random pc's on the network ip adresses correct? if so i have mine set to a static in windows .2 for hers and .4 for mine

EDIT: it appears setting the client port didnt do anything, that or i i used the wrong ranges, i started from 20001 and up.

Uh the Netgear black spider router 😛 . For that price it should not have any problems.

An yes DHCP is what dynamicly assigns ip's to devices on the network should they not have a static one. If you manually assign an IP's for devices on the router / pc's make sure that they are the same.

Offtopic: Except for the fact my girlfriend bought it as a b-day present and bought a copy for herself aswell 😕mileytongue:

Battlefield 4 and Hardline have both been present at LAN events without this issue. People that hold LAN events are usually good at setting up networks so this issue doesn't happen. It's not really something that should need patching as the game doesn't do anything wrong.

I partly agree with you, not everyone is good with setting up networks...

Well, all solutions I've mentioned is just things I've seen other people report have worked for them. The root of the problem is usually that users have setup a network with a bothersome NAT firewall or picked a ISP that placed you behind a NAT firewall.

ISP's typically does this because they don't have enough ipv4 addresses for all devices on their network so it's a problem that will go away by itself when ipv6 is fully implemented in all networks and games. I've heard of gamer couples paying their ISP for 2 dedicated IPs to solve this problem which is indeed damn annoying.

Remove your computer from DMZ.

Remove Port Forwarding Rules.

Disable Firewall (if it has one?)

Turn uPnP = on  , on the router.

Save settings,  power it off for a few minutes.

Test

No?

Disable uPnP.. Power cycle router again... Test

The client ports I'm talking about is when you Right Click the game in Origin, Game Properties, and there is a box that says something like "Command Line Arguments"

Yes the R8000 supports DDWRT...   if you do this read the instructions 3 times before attempting.

Static Lease // DHCP Reservation = when you put the computer's MAC into your router

Static IP = when the client knows what IP it wants  (i.e. adapter settings)

Would this make a difference?  Unlikely but maybe.. people have reported crazy stuff that allows multiple clients to work together for other games.

*edit* oh yeah and if you disable DHCP and can't get back onto the router... that reset button on the back is going to come in handy... I really doubt it's this... but crazy world

We don't play hardline together but we did play PvZ together on Time Warner with a FreeBSD/pfSense home-made router.  We had no problems, but that's a bit unfair to judge from since it's designed to work for businesses where like devices connect....  PvZ and BF4/HL have more in common than you would first think too.

No other game ive ever purchased in recent years has given me such a hard time, i find it difficult to believe that it isnt simply oversight on DICE's end, they probably didnt expect a lot of people to have more than one copy per household, i had a lot of problems with bf 4 as well, and the smart port forwarding program helped make it stable, but its really hit or miss now, every single day i have to adjust something to even connect :/, there SHOULD be a proven work around by now youd figure, seeing how long bf4 has been out and hardline basically uses the same framework....

i dunno ill fiddle with it some more, thanks for the help guys
