CPU/GPU usage spikes

I've been playing the game a fair deal and what's wrecking my experience is this annoying CPU/GPU usage spike. Using the perfoverlay.showgraph 1 console command I could monitor my CPU/GPU usage.

The graph shows a relatively stable usage of my CPU and GPU resources, yet at seemingly random intervals they spike all the way off my screen! They don't even register on the graph, the spikes are so large. They tend to be up to 20 times higher than my normal usage, if looking at the numbers is any indication.

When this happens, I get a game freeze. Depending on how bad it is it can last for seconds or for a blink of an eye. It tends to range between 0.5-2 seconds and happens multiple times a minute. The only time this does not happen is when I'm looking up at the sky, which is obvious because there's nothing up there I need to render.

Sometimes, when the GPU spikes at a particular time my game enters windowed mode and the colours get all screwed up(Like a rainbow), but when I maximise it again it's fine.

Firstly, I need to know if anybody else is having this problem.

Secondly, is there are workaround for this?

Thirdly, I played all during Beta and did not experience anything of this sort, so I don't believe the issue is on my end. The only thing that has changed since then was going from Windows 7 which I had during Beta to Windows 8.1 which I have now. I'm on a laptop.

My specs are as follow;

Intel i7 Q3610M 3.3x4GHz(3.3 is @ Turbo, 2.3 is non-Turbo but is not very relevant here)

Nvidia GeForce GT 630M /w 2GB vRAM(Not a good gfx card but has managed to run BF4 fine during Beta)

8GB RAM

1TB HDD

Windows 8.1 Professional

All drivers are on their latest versions.

I play on the absolute minimum settings. Lowered my resolution to 1280x760.

I'm having the same problem even with a good graphics card.  My fps in game drops from 85 to 15 during these frequent and annoying GPU spikes.

    Intel Core i7-3820QM @ 2.70GHz

    NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680M

    16 GB RAM

    Windows 7

  • I'm having this same issue and it's fustrating, played beta fine played offical BF4 for a couple days then laterly my GPU would suddenly start fluctuating and my fps in-game goes up and down.

I try reinstaling the drivers and it fixes it for only a little while before doing it again

    Intel i5 Q3570K

    Radeon HD 7850 2GB

    8GB RAM

    2TB HDD

    Windows 7 Home Prenium
