Hey guys this is what I have found based on my experiences with this error. Could be different for you but hope it helps.
I been getting this error in battlefield 3 and battlefield 4. Also in other games I have been getting the windows message display driver stop responding and then recovered. Which leads me to believe these two errors are related, it could be that the bf4 code is catching this error where other games are not and letting windows deal with it hence the display driver stop responding message.
Anyway like most people I tried everything and still couldnt get it to work until yesterday I borrowed my work mates graphics card. Plugged it in didnt have to change the driver or anything and I havent had the problem since. So it could be a faulty graphics card.
Find a friend with same type graphics card (ati, nvidia), and try theres. If that fixes your problem use your warranty or buy a new graphics card.
This is the fix for me based on my experience.
