FPS Drops? (PC)

Hey guys I'm not sure if its just me but I get a nice 60-70 FPS but every 5 or so seconds my FPS drops to like 12 or less!

My Specs are:

AMD FX 6100 6 Core, Clocks @ 3.3GHz
8GB DDR3 Ram
1.2TB HDD (I have 700GB+ space on the HDD BF4 Is installed on)
Nvidia GT640 2GBDDR3

Now I'm running the latest drivers for Nvidia which is R331 (v331.65) and I'm playing BF4 on LOW settings.

Any help is greatly appreciated, Thanks!

  • Im lucky to get 30fps with drops every few seconds down to 10-15fps. Ran BF3 just fine at 50-60fps with no real drops to speak of. It's an issue with the CPU usage in BF4 for sure. Tried unparking my cores and user.cfg edits, no luck.

    Intel Core2 Quad CPU Q9550 @ 2.83GHz

    GeForce GTX 560

  • Same here

Despite this is a good piece of hardware the game runs VERY bad on any settings. Ultra 30-40 fps on most demanding maps. Low is pretty much the same. I can play ultra 60 fps on maps like rogue transmission and golmud railway.

    -Intel core i5-3470 3.2 Ghz

    -Gainward Gtx 680

    -8 gb RAM

  • I had the same issue till yesterday. The things I did and you MUST try (please read carefully):

    - nVidia control panel BF4's settings back to default (as this didn't seem to help me, I set "triple buffering" and "max performance prefered" again in the settings).

    - Closed !avast, TuneUp, and MSI Afterburner and basically any other non essential program needed in order to be able to run the game (as this seemed to have no effect either for me, I have these programs running again while playing).

    - user.cfg placed in game's main folder (you can find this file on some forums, but it only gives you slighty better FPS by disabling some effects, it doesn't fix the FPS drops for me, so I finally decided to delete it as my PC can hold good FPS without it).

    - Disabled SLI (seemed to fix it but I can't be sure as the FPS drops with SLI enabled were around the FPS I was getting with SLI disabled, but I got really low performance to play on ULTRA, so I turned SLI back on. Basically it wasn't worth it).

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE NEXT FIXES I TRIED CAN HELP TO IMPROVE YOUR OVERALL PERFORMANCE IN OTHER GAMES AND GENERAL PROGRAMS ALSO AND DON'T AFFECT YOUR SYSTEM IN ANY OTHER WAY, SO I REALLY DON'T RECOMMEND YOU TO UNDO THEM AS I DID WITH THE THREE PREVIOUS ONES. YOU CAN DO THEM ALL AT THE SAME TIME WITHOUT HAVING TO TRY THE GAME'S PERFORMANCE AFTER EACH ONE:

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    - Installed the "DIRECTX" file in the game's directx folder.

    - Unparked CPU cores with a program found on the net.

    - Disabled HyperThreading (HT) from BIOS.

    - Reinstalled the latest graphic drivers.

    - Repaired game with Origin.

    - x64 setting in Origin's BF4 game properties.

    - Deleted all .cab files in BF4's DirectX's folder and updated the game right after.

    - Disabled CPU Parking from Windows' registry (search on the net).

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The LAST TWO finally fixed my FPS drops. I can't be sure wich one it was as I did 'em at the same time.

It took me a lot of time to do and explain all this, so please consider giving it a try and telling me how it went. I really hope this helped.

    Cheers 😉

Same problem for me, runs at 60 fps (low settings) smoothly then drops to 30-20 fps all of a sudden...even in the test range. This got worst with the new patch, i tried everything, i even formatted the pc and made a clean windows 8.1 pro instalation, reinstalled everything including gpu drivers, directx and bf4, and im still getting fps drops in various servers and game situations...its extremely frustrating knowing it used to work better when i bought the game, but now...im beggining regreting my purhcase...and i got the premium edition, pretty big investment and EA is not delivering it...

I tried all the solutions that i could possibly find on the web but nothing seems to work...does anyone have a real fix??????? and EA, do you care for your costumers????

    CPU: FX-8350 8 core 4Ghz

GPU: ASUS HD5850 1 Gb (latest ATI drivers 13.12)

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8 Gb 1866Mhz

OS: Windows 8.1 pro (fully updated)

I have the same problem i was averaging before patch at 80-90FPS. After the patch this has dropped to 50-60 droping to as low as 6FPS. I have updated punkbuster and dx i have reinstalled game and OS with no change other games play with no issues.

    CPU - FX6100 OC 4.1Ghz

    RAM - 8GB tracer Ballistix 1600Mz

    HDD - Kingston Hyper X 240GB

    GPU - EVGA 660 SC Sig 2 3GB

Game is unplayable on all settings and in windowed mode.

    gtx 660 oc version
    amd fx 8350
    8gb ram
    win 7

well i have the same problems
when you look at the optimal requirements it says  that my specs should be fine with the game

even without win 8 i could play it on high
but now since the latest patches , i have to play this game on low when i want to play it ...
i really need someone who says me clearly that its not my pc

  • I have the same issue, I get max FPS of 30-40 when playing even thougfh I used to get 100 FPS on ultra, but now it's just a friggin slide show, and I don't know what's going on...

    Specs:

    CPU: Intel Core i7-3770

RAM: 4 x 4 GB 1600 MHz Kingston Xtream Blu overclocked to CL9

    MB: Gigabyte Z77X-D3H

    Storage: 2 x Samsung 840 Pro (in RAID 0)

    Grafix: AMD XFX HD 7990

I repeat, I used to play the game @ 100-200 FPS on ultra ! now it's a slide show and lots of lag when playing 30 FPS whether using DX11 or Mantle no difference, also it makes no change when changing the settings from ultra to low I still get the same FPS but worse grafix

I have done all the optimizations possible, unparked CPU, optimized settings, running on maximum performance, and other tweaks, nothing.... nada...

running all the latest drivers for everything on my PC, I have 3rd party software updaters and I make sure everything is update, even windows and microsoft products.... everything !

  • I believe I have fixed the issue, I can now run BF at 100-200 FPS again,I did a few steps before I tested it, not sure what exactly fixed the issue

    anyways, here's what I did:

    - open origin

    - run repair for the main BF4 game in your games

    - hover over BF4 and when the popup appears, click in the 'i' that appears

    - right click every DLC you have and run repair again on each of them

    - go to the main game icon again and click repair

    - update punkbuster (google punkbuster, then download and run pbsetup indicate BF4 by adding a new game and then update it)

    - disable windows Aero

    - launch the game on any empty server (you should have your FPS back by now)

    - close the game

    - enable windows Aero again

play game normally with Aero enabled after that, you don't have to disable it anymore.

this should have the issue fixed, it did for me, you guys might want to test out which part fixed the FPS issue

    cheers

    Edit:

after I did that I realized I had the issue back again, but only after some time playing, so I decided to fire up task manager and AMD catalyst control center and see what's happening and after some time of gaming, voila ! ladies and gentlemen this is a memory leak (I have 16 GB of RAM and only 15 GB usable, and it goes on between 14.7 and 14.8 GB of RAM utilization, of 15 GB... that is the issue:
