At first, download and install the latest version of Origin at www.origin.com/download (and make sure you have your Origin account ready as well) and run Origin.exe as administrator. Get sure that Origin.exe is added to the exception list of your antivirus/firewall software.
Open your Origin client, go to "My Games" -> rightclick "BF1942" -> choose "Repair Install". Additionally, re-install BF1942 via Origin.

same problem hhere ran all the fixes changed the resolution and had compatability mode. only thing that provokes any reaction is setting compat mode to the 640 resolution , it rewards me with a quick blackscree flash before it crashes. any solution to this problem yet ?

I have the same issue and EA Origin seems to be unwilling to help. I'm seriously considering cracking the game, I don't want to but I'm not getting any reaction from EA Origin. I reported the issue with the "Origin Error Reporter" and I still haven't received any kind of response from them. I'm running Win 7. I can run the Mass Effect 3 Demo but I can't run Battlefield 1942. It's pissing me off to no end.
first update your bf1942 to the new master server download this patch http://team-simple.org/download/battlefield_1942_gamespy_patch_v1.61.exe
after install put bf1942 on compatability mode win xp sp3 and run as admin if dont know how to do that see this link
