Knife takedown not functioning properly

It was supposed to be that you could ONLY perform knife takedowns from behind, but several times every single day something different happens. I stand behind a sniper who is popping off rounds and has no clue I am there for about 20 seconds hitting the knife button, switching weapons and hitting knife button again, nothing. There are also instances that make me happy but I still realize that it isn't fair, that is when I get knife takedowns from the side or from 5-7 meters away from the enemy.

In short, the knife doesn't work when it should, and works when it shouldn't.

The whole "animation" makes the knife an impractical weapon. Back in 1942/ BF2, you would use your rifle, then side arm and then the knife would always be there as a last resort. Also, it was a great silent, stealthy weapon, unlike today where you have a <50% chance of making it out alive if more than one player is present.

the reason: there can only be 1 knife animation per map at any time, meaning: if your knife doesnt work, its because someone else is using the animation right now!
