I need mortar kills to try and get the Parabellum gun, but it needs 20 mortar kills before I can have that gun unlocked.In the past I've gathered 2 mortar kills, probably by accident or whatever lucky way as I never used it a lot really.Now I'm trying just the mortar to kill 18 more, but it seems impossible. I can get some percentage kill in the best case, but not one single kill.It's weird in the way that some challenges for unlocking guns seem just a job to go through, advancing some way or another.But some, seem to be impossible. I'm not sure how I ever got 2 planes taken down with an LMG, but that is something similar. It seems you need luck in particular.But, how do I get mortar kills ?Operations or Rush as modeMaps like Suez, or even ArgonneIt doesn't work for the moment ...

@Lo1snake Operations would be your best bet as people are usually grouped up on the flags, especially if you're on the attacking side. Argonne would be decent and the first sector on Ballroom Blitz should work well too. Just take your time and pummel the red dots on your mini-map. Weirdly I found the two plane kills very easy. There are a couple of ways to knock that one out. Some assignments are a real struggle though for sure.

Got it !I used the air mortar on Cape Helles, mode Operations, defending team,and it worked like a charmI think I had 13 kills in one gameIn Operations, the enemy just bunches up toghether, as opposed to the other modes where everybody is all over the placeAnd then, it's easy to hit people. You can be just far enough, and behind a hill, only have luck no other mortar is trying the same.Now, the gun, the Parabellum - I can see it's easier to take down a plane, compared with other guns, but it still is job. In fact, it's still very hard it seems, while planes are still overpowered two the second degree ..The Lewis gun is not good for that either, but the M1917 I havent tried against planes I must say.

I prefer HE mortars, but for the Parabellum unlock you can only use the airburst version to count towards unlocking requirements. Achi Baba is a great map for mortar kills. On all 3 of my accounts I did it in 2-4 matches. Good luck!

@Lo1snakeWhenever you shoot your mortar, you will be visible on the mini-map. Then it will be easy for other mortar players to target you.

For aircraft with LMG, I would lay in wait with a 100/200 shot LMG on Sinai / Monte Grappa. There are always inexperienced pilots there.

Funnily, I found the same video about the mortar usage on Youtube
It's a specific weapon though, with some very specific things like the fact you can F it all up if you launch your mortar to the side of a building or a structure. It's funny because the follow-camera in that case just follows the path of your mortar, but the mortar itself is stuck into a wall ...
The planes, I think I must have got them on Monte Grappa. If there's one map that can cause many kills from bomber planes, that is the one. I remember I always took the Lewis gun to try and get them. A trick that is explained on several places is: you can't damage a plane for 100% with a simple LMG, so you need either assistance (somebody doing the same), and if that is somebody on an AA-gun, that can help a lot. But you still need to be the one that deals the last bit of damage, and that is where you need luck.
I also remember some session on Soissons where you can hit bombers quite easily, because there is lots of elevation, but also a lot of cover. Maps that are entirely flat are the worst for plane take down.

Some luck definately is involved
Changed type of mortar to HE (High Explosive),
chose map Suez
in Operations mode, part of attacking team
try two shots, and both of them was a kill, just like that
In Monte Grappa, part of definding team in Operations,
lots of eneniems walking around, zero kills in 15 shots
What is also weird is that I cannot pick up the mortar again
It says the key is whitespace, but that is not valid
There's some bugs in BF1, one of them is the fact that if you change some keys, the displayed help information is not following that and shows the default key
So, the only way I cannot loose the mortar (left behind if you don't pick it up), is to use all mortars (5) and then run away

@Lo1snake I'd check the HE mortars are counting towards the weapon objective. It's a while since I did this but I remember air burst being needed. Hope I'm wrong though.

Supply Drop is an amazing game mode for this and actually how I unlocked my gun - breakthrough is another great one because people like to bunch together; even when enemies aren't spotted, it's fairly easy to tag a few knowing where the objective boundary starts

Use terrain bottlenecks where your team is already inflicting damage on the enemy. The mortar will finish some off and encourage many to fall back.
Don’t forget counter battery fire on enemy mortars. They are stationary and make an easier target. Just remember that applies to you too.

Hmm, no indeed, only airburst mortar kills count for that objective.
Is the Parabellum actually worth it ? So I heard that would be the best gun for taking down planes.
