A harddrive installation is required to play the game, it cannot be played without being installed on the harddrive. So, my guess would be that's it doesn't give you the option because it's not an option 😛
As for the golden battlepacks from the standard edition this is the official information:
Standard Edition - Three Gold Battlepacks
- 1 Gold Battlepack will become available for Standard Edition players on March 17th, 20th, and 26th, 2015.
I'm guessing delays can occour :/

I too cannot install the disc onto my hard drive like I can with BF3, BF4 and pretty much all my other disc games. The mandatory install you speak of does not install the disc onto the hard drive. The optical drive is always running when I play the game, which shouldn't happen if the disc was installed onto the hard drive.
- Carbonic, the problem is as Dominic414 stated. They need to allow the game disc to install to the hard drive to allow for the optical drive to not run, thus lowering temperature, mechanical failures etc. Every xbox 360 game has the option to be installed to the hard drive. I am not talking about the in - game installation that is needed to run the game. I am obviously aware of that.
- Thank you for clarifying the battlepack issue though
- Anonymous11 years agoI was wondering about this as well. All my new games I install to the hard drive in order to keep the temp of my system low. I want to avoid the red ring of death and over heating. I hope this is quickly addressed and fixed very soon.

Ah sorry, I don't have an Xbox so don't know what's normal or not.
I've reported the issue with EA so not much more I can do. You can posting the bug/issue on the Battlelog forum designed for just that here:

After some searching around I learned that Titanfall is the same way. The reason why is because it increased performance. I cannot confirm if this is the reason why we can't install Hardline, but it seems likely. And no digital version of Titanfall was released for the 360, I hope this is not true for Hardline.
Dominic, thank you for the research. As for the "increased performance", we all know that is grossly false. We have a hard time believing that the optical drive moves faster than the speed of light. Yes, it reads at the speed of light, please don't throw that at us. It is just another ploy to generate more income. I have been a gamer for a long time. As we move through time, people forget what it used to be like. Earning vs buy, and many more examples. We understand that gaming is a huge business and the bottom line is important.
I digress.
Thank you again for your continued work on this issue. Give us a disclaimer not to install, but don't remove it. I guess I will get a backup optical drive if this is the trend.
Do you think this is an effort to reduce players modifying the games?
Let us know your thoughts.

Let me add to the conversation by feeding some fuel to the situation...
They want to force everyone to upgrade to the next generation of console.
It's probably a joint venture between Microsoft and certain game publishers (and only on specific big name games) where the option to install the game disc to HDD is not available... the reason, most likely to ruin our trusty Xbox 360's so we can upgrade to the Xbox One.
My optical drive is noisy and I can see it failing soon, and I think BFH is going to be the game to send it over the edge!
I think I will just go out and buy a 2nd hand console from EB Games if it fails.
