No sound issue on Windows 10 20H2 (Build 19042.1110)

I have no sound inside the game, heres the troubleshooting steps I took. I verified the complete game integrity twice. Deleted Origin files started the game with the new EA Desktop app. Disabled both in game overlays in Origin, EA Deskop. I disabled cloud saves. Deleted my Battlefield 4 game preferences in documents to default. I disabled optional sound devices besides the one I use. I quit any background applications besides the necessary, I tried running the game in administrator mode. Restarted my PC, stopped my OBS twitch stream. Nothing was working. No sounds in the menu or in game.

I tried disabling Windows defender in order to have sound no chance. Because this thread talks about it on Windows 8. The game won't play any sound on my device. I'm using the GoXLR and routing for anything else works I can still hear discord, Windows sounds and other programs. Just not Battlefield 4.

Don't know what I'm doing wrong. For some reason the game won't switch to another audio source, it sticks to System audio device even though I wanna switch it via Eartrumpet to Game audio device. There is no sound output on either, System or Game so the game won't play any sound.

  • Thanks for the help guys, it was something a bit more sophisticated I guess. I got a love writing for support and in forums only to find the solutions a minute later or in this case a day later.

Sometime ago in order to split audio better on my GoXLR I went into advanced app volume and device settings in the new Windows 10 sound settings and set the output to my GoXLR device/line "Game" as output. You can't change that on Battlefield 4, though in newer titles/games you can select where output to which device. It must have somehow corrupted or was still on a old legacy device. You have to know there is an issue with GoXLR mini devices, if you plug the GoXLR into the wrong USB port it counts up the device's name so instead of showing up as "Game" which is the normal way it shows up the audio device I would have would be called "2 - Game".

Anyway, I think it was trying to output to that old device, not recognizing that I switched it around sometime ago to just be Game as a device name with the correct USB-Port on the back of my motherboard. Within the old volume mixer and in ear trumpet audio was shown to be 100% volume at all times though. Either that, or it might have just glitched out. Just that it was outputing/routed to an old legacy device that was disconnected for Windows.

For a more visual guideline, check out the screenshots attached below:

Now I have sound output, thanks for the suggestions though. This brought me closer to the solution.

  • bump.

This is still an issue I'm facing, don't know why anyone would come to the conclusion that this is spam. Please reiterate on that thanks.

  • check the windows 10 sound mixer, it can apply volume levels per app basis, make sure that it hasnt set the volume for bf4 to minimum

    Hi

There are 3 things that I've seen happen. Right click speaker in tray bottom left and select sound settings. Make sure your sound card/solution is correct. wile in there select sound control panel right side of screen. click speaker in lower panel and select properties. Click the advanced tab and make sure 16 bit 48000 hz is selected.

Third reason I see a lot is the game muted. Launch game then alt,tab out of game right click speaker and make sure BF4 is not muted.

    Hope this helps.
