Re: Doing a side-by-side comparison of BF2042 and Modern Warfare 2022 Capabilities

BFV was the last great Battlefield game worthy of the title.

BFV? The first BF with the live service system, no rented servers, no team switch, vocal representatives antagonizing customers, the game that chanced the battle royale fad, the First mainline BF game that was abandoned incomplete because they wanted to semi finish and sell 2042?

The one thing BFV has over 2042 if we compare them at a similar time, is not having specialists.

And people wonder why people keep pre ordering, It seems that all is forgiven when the game is not the latest.

@UP_Hawxxeye BFV as it is now, is better and 100 times more playable than what 2042 is now, yeah it lack cross platform and only 64 players, but its a more playable and enjoyable game.

I disagreed and hated that they put a Battle Royale mode in, so I never played it, but looking back at BF games, BFV was the last in the series which was a good BF game, BF1 was average, and BF4 was EA/Dice at their best in terms of base game and the content that the game came with.

@Cemtexxcompare it to what it was at 8 months after its release man...
If we compare 8 months of bugfixing to ~2 years of fixing and content, of course the one with the ~2 years will look better.

Aside from the specialists and the lack of platoon support, almost all the things that we say about 2042, have been said for BFV, then BF1 before that and BF4 before that.

    @UP_Hawxxeye ,

Then try and compare e.g. BF4 to BF2042 here 6+ months after their respective launch dates please!

    Compare e.g.:

    Number of primary weapons?

    Number of gadget weapons?

Number of accessories to unlock for each weapon?

    Number of different vehicles?

Number of unlockable loadouts for the vehicles?

    Number of maps?

    Number of different game modes?

Number of supporting functionalities, to enable/encourage a game community and friends to play together?

The lack of contents and functionality in BF2042 here 6+ months after launch is staggering, also when comparing on these hard metrics versus previous Battlefield games at same age post launch!

@CyberDymeWhy are you bringing up BF4 in a quote that started with putting BFV on a pedestal?

BF4 was a dumpster fire of its own when it was the current game.

Its saving graces were that premium funded more content and that DICE had not yet been mandated by EA to not have permanent rent-able third party servers etc so that older games can die and more people will buy the new title.

    @UP_HawxxeyeLets compare day 1 BF4 to day 1 BF2042:

    Weapons:
    2042 - 19
    BF4 - 84 (I may be off a bit but a lot more than 2042 day 1)

    Vehicles:
2042: 14 (All Base Game Vehicles)
    BF4: 24 (Not including transport)

    Maps:
    2042: 7
    BF4: 10

Not much difference in number of maps, but the base maps in BF4 were better designed and were good for vehicle and infantry combat with cover for infantry and areas where vehicles and infantry can fight together, not 1 or other.

Looking at it, EA/Dice have gave us such a stripped down, boring, empty game its an insult to the Series, the players and to them selves.

I am also comparing BF4 and 2042 as they are chronological to each other.

    Sorry @UP_Hawxxeye ,

I am most familiar with the BF4 game and all its history and DLC releases, while I was not on BFV all the way.  The response to your post was because you rightfully said we could not compare BF2042 current state with previous BF games that had been years on the market post launch.  Reason why I brought up e.g. BF4 and asked you then to compare BF2042 game content to BF4 at similar age 6 months post launch.  That I think is a perfectly fine comparison to make.

OP made this thread comparing now BF2042 to MW2022, and we see how much BF2042 is missing out.

But similar, think most of us can agree on that BF2042 is missing out similar also when comparing to its own prior born BF siblings when they were at similar age post launch!

@CyberDymeThis is what happens when they do not expect more moneyz for the extra content in a live service game.
Premium was disgusting at times but at least it funded more content

We will keep getting such releases until we stop paying until they deliver.

Comparing A BF game to a CoD game is redundant since they are almost completely different types of FPS in their style. I would not even look at CoD even if it was the best CoD in history.

  • @Cemtexx ,

I can help you with the BF4 game stats at launch and the data from the DLCs post launch:

    BF4 core game at launch:

10 maps, later expanded to 13.

Dawnbreaker, Flood Zone, Golmud Railway, Hainan Resort, Lancang Dam, Operation Locker, Paracel Storm, Rogue Transmission, Siege of Shanghai, Zavod 311. => +Dragon Valley, Operation Outbreak, Zavod Graveyard Shift.

7 game modes, later expanded to 11 game modes.
Conquest, Rush, Deathmatch, Domination, Obliteration, Defuse, Capture the Flag.  => +Air Superiority, Carrier Assault, Chain Link, Gun Master)

    Weapons:

68 different primary weapons.  (and each weapon having typically 25-38 different loadout options, with barrel, optic, under barrel/handle and accessories...)

14 secondary weapons and 8 gadgets.

    Vehicles:

    8 different groups of vehicles:

Scout heli, attack boat, infantry fighting vehicle, attack jet, attack heli, main battle tank, stealth jet, anti air.

    DLCs after game launch:

December 3rd, we had the China Rising DLC

4 new maps, 1 new game mode, one new vehicle, 5 new weapons.

February 18th, we had the Second Assault DLC

4 new maps, 1 new game mode, one new vehicle, 5 new weapons.

March 25th, we had the Naval Strike DLC

4 new maps, 1 new game mode, one new vehicle, 5 new weapons.

So with BF4, six months post launch...

3 full DLCs released to the game.  Adding a whopping 12 more new maps, 3 more game modes, 3 more vehicles and 15 more primary weapons to the already impressive portfolio we had in the game since game launch of BF4...

How does that stack up now to BF2042 six months post launch?

@CyberDyme 2042 at its current state is just a mess, I got a feeling it won't be fixed in time to compete with MW2022. By time that game comes out they have a list of things to do to compete with any games now, and after the summer show case of games coming in the next 12 months, I can't see 2042 surviving.

@UP_Hawxxeye Battlefield 5 as a live service game gave us more content in 6 months that 2042 has in 8 months.
  • Lol when people bring up weapon variety in BF4. Everyone just uses the AEK or ACE 23 anyway.

    Actually @Cemtexx ,

I think that BF2042 is it's own worst enemy!

E.g. I don't see myself going to play COD instead.  Never have and do not see myself ever going that way.

BF2042 in it's sad state have made me stop playing the BF2042 game just all by itself.

Also why I was so upset when hearing the EA executive member referring during our investor meeting to release of the Rainbow Six Siege game being a reason for the disappointing BF2042 sales numbers.  Talk about diversion of responsibility...

That is not correct @CPT_GASLIGHT !

Join my server and check it out if you will in spectator mode.

So of the 64 players on board, we typically only see 6-10 running with the same few select primary weapon.  (e.g. a couple of Assaults with the same SCAR-H assault rifle, 2-3 with the same shotgun, 2-3 Support with the same LMG). And here again, near never do they actually run it with the same loadout of accessories.

So each weapon and its variations to custom fit your personal preferences are indeed used and appreciated by the players!

@CyberDyme But as a whole, 2042 is going to struggle, probably till the next Battlefield game (If we get another). I don't see much of a bright future for this game and its sad to see a game that has lasted 20+ years just fall and get buried after such a good run.

I forgive EA/Dice over BF5 seeing it become a great game to play, but 2042 they just lost it all. Its why am moved to Modern Warfare and Cold War. Yes them games have the same problems, the biggest 1 the hackers, but you don't have a game that is 100% cheat free. So got to cope and get by.

But with MW2022 am probably going to stick by that game more than I will do with 2042, especially since the buyout of Activision/Blizzard by Microsoft, so the quality control will be there (Hopefully).

It is the difference between the former starting broken at a technical level while the later was broken in both a technical level AND  at a concept/design level (specialists and bad launch maps).

@UP_HawxxeyeWhy have portal when the other games are still available to buy? Portal can't replace what is already available and better.

But I don't want to get off topic, 2042 compared to MW2022, the capabilities alone are more than 2042 and its doing cross-platform correctly with all the basic features that cross play between Console and PC need, controller and M&K support for all.

Competition is good. MW2022 probably has a less problematic engine too.
The problem is by looking at other titles EA DICE seems to draw the wrong conclusions about what needs to be done to make a BF game more attractive.

@UP_Hawxxeye I think comparing other EA titles to each other, Battlefield shouldn't really have to take from them, it does so well with its own ideas and identity. With 2042 they have tried to take from others.

Specialist are a copy of Apex Legends for selecting who to play, maps are too large as if they were designed for a campaign, not multiplayer. I understand other EA titles getting ideas from a Battlefield. Battlefront 2 for map design and class choice, I see Battlefield with a Star Wars skin with the battlefront games.

But as of now, 2042 is not a Battlefield, its a mix of several games they have tried to put into 1 package and it has went soo wrong for them.
