Relocating Origin game library after a virus presented problems.

Hello,

I recently suffered from an infection of a virus and had to relocate my game library to another drive, after formatting the hardrive that origin was on (C:\) and reinstalling windows and origin, i can no longer play any of my games with the exception of bf3. My internet connection on avarege is 250K/bs so re-downloading 170GB is pretty much out of the question.

Prior to moving my library, it was sat nicely on a 500GB mechanical WD, and now is on my SSD.

BF4 returns error 5ffdfff8 for single player, multiplayer and test range

Hardline gives me: "The Origin account currently logged in does not have access for this game. Please uninstall & install the game in an allowed language or log in with a different account and restart your game session."

Need For Speed Most Wanted sits in ILS (Infinite Loading Screen)

Renaming executable's and repair games does nothing. Moving or deleting My Documents folders does nothing.

On a side note, windows update sits and consumes 2GB of RAM and does nothing regardless of Origin or games. (I suspect this to be related in some way, even if it's minor)

OS: win7 x64

CPU: AMD BULLDOZER AM3+

RAM: Kingston DDR3

I monitor my bandwidth and pings with cFosSpeed, and all appears normal (other game clients have no issues)

All motherboard drivers have been freshly downloaded from manufacturers website.

Nvidia Drivers are up to date.

VCredists have been reinstalled (2005 to 2013)

DirectX-11 installed

.NET4.6.1 freshly downloaded and installed.

rooted out and fixed any and all standard and critical errors i found in event viewer. My system is in tip top shape. (taking into consideration that i have to stop windows update service)

I'd really appreciate any advice or help you guys can give me, as quite a bit of time (and money) went into getting (and trying to protect) these games, which I'm sure you can understand.

Thanks in advance.

P.S. I GRANT XP FOR QUALITY ANSWERS & INFO!!!!

  • You probably want to get your Windows fixed before fixing anything else. Windows is the foundation and why build upon a foundation that is falling apart.

What have you done to fix your Windows? Have you run Windows System File Checker after checking the harddrives?

As for the games, what procedure/method did you use for moving the games so they work in the Origin client?

  • The disk was formatted and windows was reinstalled. SFC /Scannow was run anyway after reviewing system event log.

    For arguments sake 🙂

    C:\Windows\System32>sfc /scannow

Beginning system scan.  This process will take some time.

Beginning verification phase of system scan.
    Verification 100% complete.

Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.

  • My account is admin, security policies on all client executables and game executables are set to run elevated.

I really don't like Origin on my C:\ for security reasons.

Obviously windows is a fresh install, and Origin had to be installed for the registry keys to be merged.

The account having administrator rights and actually running a program with administrator rights are two different things so please try starting Origin as shown, can't hurt to try 🙂

If you have any of the games or any of the games installed in the root of a drive and not inside an extra folder like "D:/OriginGames/BF4/" or "E:/Programs/Origin/ then that can give issues. For troubleshooting you might want to try installing Origin and the games in the default locations ( C:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Battlefield 4 etc. ) to rule out permission issues like these.

I don't know what you mean by the registry keys being "merged".

  • Prior to the format, I exported the registry keys for Origin and all the games in the library, hence I had to "merge" them again when windows & origin were reinstalled.

However, ALL OF THE LISTED PROBLEMS ARE NOW RESOLVED.

Solution: Uninstall Origin, reinstall Origin in it's default location... Yippe-kai-yay for telemetry and data mining

FYI: This has reset all custom key mapping (including mouse mapping) and all video settings to their default values.

A Problem has arisen from this en-devour, the video settings in BF4 are now unchangeable and are stuck on low
