The new "Range Finder" attachment kind of ruins sniping in Battlefield 6
I've been playing sniper since Battlefield 2 back on the PlayStation 2, and I have always loved the satisfaction of getting a long-range kill after correctly accounting for bullet drop and lead - however I feel the new "range finder" attachment in the Battlefield 6 Beta takes away a lot of what made sniping in battlefield special/unique.
For those who haven't tried it yet - after attaching the range finder to your rifle you can simply click a button to instantly "zero" the scope to match the distance you are looking at. This means that you no longer have to adjust for bullet drop at all - making it basically a regular sniper from Call of Duty. I always loved that in Battlefield you had to actually use the the other range marks on the scope to account for distance - but with this new attachment all you need is the center dot again.
Battlefield has always been about realism to me, so I was hoping the range finder would simply show you the actual range that you are looking at so you could adjust your aim accordingly - but instead we have an instant, perfect crosshair adjustment.
For those who would say "just don't use the attachment!" I won't - but this puts you at a disadvantage to everyone else who is using it. Part of the fun of sniping in Battlefield was having a 1v1 "sniper face-off" with another sniper across the map to see who was more skilled - but those won't be as fun now if everyone is running this. In addition to this, I don't think there is a way to use the range finder to actually just see the range without adjusting your scope.
HOW WOULD I FIX IT?
Option 1 - Remove the option to instantly adjust your crosshair to the exact distance you are looking and instead - simply show the distance you are looking at. This would still allow you to utilize the new feature of clicking through the 100/200/300/400/500m zeroing options and adjusting aim accordingly.
Example: The rangefinder says your target is at 250m so you adjust your scope to 200m and aim slight above their head to adjust for the 50m.
Option 2 - Add a "animation penalty" for adjusting the crosshairs to the exact distance.
Example: If you want to adjust the zeroing to the exact distance there is a small animation that takes the POV out of the scope and you see your soldier actually adjusting the dials on the scope. This would allow snipers to zero their scopes perfectly - but adds a "interaction delay" as a small penalty so it cannot simply be spammed instantly at every range you switch to.
Just to clarify - I am NOT trying to "gatekeep" sniping or anything like that. On the contrary! I would LOVE to see new players discover the unique satisfaction of long - range kills that only Battlefield can provide! :)
