Why are the servers shutting down ?

I really don’t know why EA has to shut down the servers for this legendary game. It still has a decent player base both on Xbox and PS.
I thought this game would last a lot longer because it has server rentals.. and literally every server is player hosted.. meaning people are paying to keep this game running. So what’s the issue ?

On PC, connected and played on servers fine. On PC we can create our own servers so maybe it's EA's official game servers that are shutdown which is understandable.

Old games are the best. Even 2002 Battlefield 1942 is still played today with active servers.

They definitely shouldn't touch them, ive seen as many as 6 full servers at once on Xbox and people paid money for these games especially for multiplayer and now they are out as well as purchasing upgrades on the store now lost everything. EA will likely start taking big loses in the future unless they change their ways.

  • EA not making any money but they should put servers back online as customers are gonna become less likely to invest in the future, another idea would be to remake battlefield 3 for Xbox one and restore servers and people's accounts.

  • Its all about the money.  Servers cost nothing to run but of course if it works then they can't sell you a new game.
Make sure to go get your new EA game!!!

As like many have said, "I have purchased my last EA product and will never buy from them again".

  • EA should not touch the Battlefield games. There are several EA servers still running on these old platforms with very few if any players. Shut those down but leave battlefield be.

@Mikes360JTAGS It might seem steady to you but EA has the full player population stats. Also The Xbox 360 and PS3 are 3 console generations ago so EA likely thinks their money should be spent elsewhere on modern console support. I think the servers should stay up as long as there are players but EA is a publicly traded for profit company and likely wants to eliminate expenditures where they can.
  • @danisoff  The player count on both consoles remained steady for years now so that’s not

news to me. Still a number of full servers are going for it during evenings and weekends .

Every active server is rented by players! So I do not understand the need to shut everything down.

This is senseless and unnecessary. I strongly vote against this. BF3 needs to be up indefinitely as it’s the best battlefield game ever!

  • Hello @Mikes360JTAGS,

Generally, servers are being shut down as players are gradually transitioning to newer titles. This game, being over 13 years old, has seen its player base diminish.

    Best regards,

  • Hello everyone, unfortunately a date has just been unveiled to close the Battlefield 3 online service, on November 7, 2024 we will no longer be able to connect and play online. EA do not make this mistake please, there are a lot of active players on Battlefield 3 PS3, many only play this game, because in my personal opinion this FPS is by far the best offered to us on the video game market. Please do not close the online service, at least delay the scheduled date if possible. Please share this message so that any Battlefield 3 PS3 player can in turn share this information and who knows, allow to cancel the closing date of the online service. Personally, Battlefield 3 on PS3 is the only game I play because I find it perfect as an FPS and if EA does close the online service, I will say goodbye to game consoles.
