Linux dxvk users as of late 2020

Alright so I'm currently trying to transition to Linux, although I'm wondering if the DXVK bans from January were still happening as i really do not want to be permanently banned from a game i paid for just for using Linux. I've decided to ask EA support but they were of no help as all i got from them is this. They tried to redirect me to the post made in January but when i asked for the current situation regarding Linux users they just said they could not answer the question, and that's what brought me here.

Have any of you guys heard about or have had issues regarding Battlefield V on Linux as of late this year?

  • There never were any DXVK bans. That never happened. Literally.

Look at every single article or thread that claims that it was a thing, and they all lead back to only ONE SOURCEA single post on the Lutris forums where THREE people claim to have been banned for no reason, and they decided it must have been because of Wine/DXVK. One of those three was actually unbanned, so really it was only two people.

Tens of thousands (that's probably a conservative number considering there are about 1.3 million Linux gamers) of Linux users have played and continue to play Battlefield V for years without there EVER being a single banwave of any kind, let alone a "blanket ban" of Linux players.

Like, the amount the community flipped the out for literally no reason, just taking three random anonymous people on the internet making a claim with zero evidence whatsoever and legitimately going all torches-and-pitchforks to the point where several legitimate news articles and YT videos were made about it (all of them just saying that EA was banning all Linux users) was really pathetic to see, and it was the first real time I genuinely felt ashamed to be a part of the Linux gaming community.

TL;DR, it was never a thing, there were never any bans for using DXVK, you have zero risk of playing Battlefield V on Linux.

2042, now, is another story, because it uses EasyAntiCheat and doesn't work on Linux at all (but  you won't be banned because you can't play).

The answer is that this literally never happened, and that your only source is two random users on a lutris forum post that claimed to have been banned, and decided themselves that it was because of Wine/DXVK (EA never once actually said that). TWO random people on a forum post claimed to have been banned, and everyone got in a huge uproar.

There were never any "Linux bans," it never happened, everyone literally flipped out over nothing, and it was legitimately something the community should be ashamed of (getting that out of sorts over two random people making a claim with no evidence whatsoever).

Tens of thousands of Linux users have played Battlefield V for years (including myself), and there has never been any evidence whatsoever of any sort of banwave (and actually there's never even been any CLAIM of any ban waves, just those two random people on a forum post).
