Post-Patch FPS Stuttering, Low GPU Utilization

After the 12-11 patch I've been experiencing moderate to severe stuttering and hitching. My average framerate is considerably lower and varies wildly from 40 fps to a max of 100 fps, stuttering throughout. There doesn't seem to be any reasonable correlation to whats happening on screen. I can be indoors facing walls and see the same issues.

More alarmingly though I'm noticing my GPU utilization in the 50% range, the GPU temperature is much lower than it should be as well.

This occurs in DX11 and DX12 mode. DXR is off, all settings Ultra except vsync will be off because I'm using a gsync monitor (SG2716DG Dell 144hz)

Specs:

Windows 10 Pro Version 1809

BF5 Installed on a NVME drive

GTX 2080Ti

i7-9700k

The Windows build is fairly clean. The only hooks and overlays are GFE and MSI Afterburner. Discord is also running but without overlay.

It cleared itself up spontaneously. A lot of others were complaining in game though. It was not occurring in the menu, single player, or training range (full GPU utilization no other issues) so perhaps there was a server side problem so bad it was bottlenecking my GPU

  • Before the last game patch BFV ran very smooth and fluid. Post game patch there is a micro stutter and screen tearing as if GSYNC(when it's showing enabled) isn't working. The game feels very "sluggish". Multiple driver installs(including latest 417.35) and a fresh OS install have not fixed this problem. Unfortunately Windows, Dice and NVIDIA have all released updates this past week so it's hard to blame Dice 100% but since the issue started post game patch for me I think it's on Dice. Please fix this ASAP. The game is unplayable for me. Please don't let this issue persist for weeks.

DX11 and DX12, it doesn't matter. Destiny 2 and Doom run very smooth and have zero issues.

  • Hello,

Can someone please explain why I've got serious stuttering during level intro movies and regular stutter during game even is it shows that it's running at 100-120 FPS?!!

I've tried various detail levels from Low to Ultra and the stutter is still there. I've tried different settings with or without DX12 and DXR but still same stutter!

    See here an example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4SLlY0s_aF4&feature=youtu.be

My pc is quite high level I say:

    Intel i5-8600

    GeForce RTX2080 with 417.22 drivers

Mobo Gigabyte Aorus Z370 K3 with latest BIOS updated

    16Gb RAM DDR4 3000Mhz

    SSD Samsung 850EVO

Gsync Monitor 240Hz - Dell Alienware

Win 10 ver 1809 (freshly installed)

Temperatures are under 60dgrs, all other games are running ok.

And its back, somewhat spontaneously within 10 minutes of starting my first game of the day. I noticed a lot more threads with similar to exact symptoms though so im going to go ahead and assume this is known. Just adding one more to the pot

    @STi322

Tried the game with FFR OFF? Switching it off has helped in some cases.

    Just a thought.

BFV ran smooth for weeks in DX12. Dice releases a patch on 12/11/18. FPS is the usual 144 but there is a micro stutter and screen tearing. Nvidia releases driver 417.35. DX11 gameplay is smooth and there is no tearing but I have to use FFR to achieve high framerates. DX12 still has tearing and choppy gameplay. Dice releases a patch this morning(12/13) and now both DX11 and DX12 have screen tearing and feel choppy. HOWEVER if you play in borderless or windowed mode it's smooth as butter. I'm not sure who to point the finger at since Microsoft, NVIDIA and Dice have released patches this week and my GPU is a replacement.

Thanks for the suggestion. Honestly it did feel a bit better, have no idea if its just in my head. But unfortunately the main problem still persists and its reflected in GPU utilization and FPS as well. Perhaps FFR was just a regular resource hog and thats the benefit I'm seeing if at all

Edit: I guess it doesn't quote replies.

Anyhow GPU utilization is in the dirt. Its being bottlenecked hard, glaringly obvious and only in multiplayer. 100% GPU in the menu, single player, training ground, but varying all over in multiplayer with a rough average of 60% GPU usage with all the poor fps and much worse the bad stuttering, hitching, and fall offs with what im assuming are even worse frametimes. The fact I witnessed it suddenly going away then coming back (along with being constrained to multiplayer) leads me to believe this is actually a server side source issue even though thats typically pretty low on the list for stuff like this

Is anyone aware of acknowledgement of this issue ? There are many posts with this exact problem between here and bug reports.

  • I have the same issue with a Vega 64. FPS went from 150-200 to 90-120 (low settings). I also got very annoying micro stutters. I stopped playing since.

A friend of mine has the same issue with a GTX 1070.
