To put things into perspective, when EA did their mass ban a few weeks/months into Apex Legends, the number of actions taken numbered in the tens of thousands - anti-cheat does in fact work, it's just struggling to keep up (like many other games), this is why manual reporting is so crucial.
They can't really discuss the actions they are taking/going to take for legal reasons and the fact would-be cheaters might be able to find a way around it - I understand it's frustrating but everyone's hands are sort of tied.
As for showing numbers, I don't think they are legally obligated to do so, so they most likely won't.
AC is an ever-changing kind of system so it's less about being outdated, and more about keeping up with today's newest curve balls. They have no choice but to really pull up their boot straps with 2042 if they want to compete.
