Re: Consistent disconnects

@EA_Aljo

Thanks again for looking into it. Just to be clear, I'm not disconnecting, just awful lag spikes several times per match. All other multiplayer games are fine (Overwatch, Valorant, Warzone etc etc)

Results do look more normal this time. I shall try playing another match now and keep you posted. (EDIT- played half a match with no issues then sadly rubberbanding all over the place again).

  • TLDR -Windows 10 Anti-malware might be causing disconnects. I was following the recommend network resets via command line and other things in the past. The latest one only stopped after I disabled some 'protection' but that was  alast resort after following all other recommendations.

    I have a pretty solid connection considering its DSL over phone line its not much slower than when I was paying for cable.  My system is built on older hardware and even small fluctuations in system resources can be noticable.  But overall for the past year its been stable but only with wragling after major windows 10 updates.  The last Windows10 rollout was a few weeks ago but it was not obvious whether the two were related. It took a while but I finally traced down the app which seemed to proc simultaneously with disconnects.  It turns out it was a windows system call and it may have been triggered by the anti-malware. Instead oof rolling back any features I just disabled some of the more advanced protections that might have been associated but I am not sure. However, the problem has not returned yet and its been a few days.

    Everything would be fine and then I would start getting disconnected every few minutes so it was unplayable. If it comes back Ill ppost more details, Mostly adding this for notes and comparison experiences.

    @lightz0ut  Any chance you can remember exactly which windows processes you killed? I don't use windows defender but perhaps there's more windows security features running in the background.

    The system is super stable in other applications/games. Only issue is with Battlefield 5.

    (Again, not getting disconnected like OP, just bad rubberbanding from high ping spikes every game. I can get through maybe half a game with it playing perfectly but then massive lag spikes which last perhaps a minute or so. Definately something up).

    Hopefully @EA_Aljo can come up with a few more things to try. What I have managed to play I've really enjoyed.

    Thanks for the input!

  • @HHKhola I was just looking that up. I thought I saved screenshots. I had task manager open and did some diagnostic data viewing related to the ethernet adapter. I vaguely recall seeeing something related to a refused connection from Origin to a site partially named ea.river but I still havent found the screenshots or notes yet. People like to criticize so many thinks about the Battlefield franchise that are ancillary and seem blissfully ignorant of how far the game has come and how robust the Frostbite engine really is. Not only has the BF game engine progressed annually as they pour thousands of work hours into what happens under the hood but they are just now able to do some of things that were attempted in 2142 (15 years ago) but the hardware capacity wasn't there. I think people who weren't playing when 2142 launched will never understand how much better everything is. Sure, BFV was sold short and had a * launch. It won't be the epic game BF1 was. But it may be time to move on and if the franchise does give back more control and customization to players it was worth skipping the incumbent raging debates over Russian uniform colors. My hope is that DICE and other companies remember the best and most successful gamnes were the result of mods to other games by indoe tird parties. Celebrate doing whatever you want. I will look some more for what I found the name escapes me.

    Thanks. I'm not seeing any issues with your UO Trace. Possibly, alternate DNS settings will help. Try following the instructions here and let me know what happens.

  • @EA_Aljo  Thanks again for responding.

    I did try switching to the google DNS on first seeing that guide. No luck sadly.

    I think my second test results maybe show the connection in it's stable state. Just every 5 minutes it will spike to the high levels shown in the first results. Network monitoring in-game shows a similar pattern/ping.

    Struggling to think of what else to try! I don't think the closest servers being in Germany helps.

    Hi again. I'm noticing now with your most recent test that the second hop is quite high. This is the node in your neighborhood. It really shouldn't be at 89. It should be closer to the teens. It would really help to see a test when you're experiencing a spike, but obviously, that's going to be hard to get. Does your router support QoS (Quality of Service)? If so, make sure it's enabled. Also, there are some other troubleshooting steps here. Let me know if any of those help. Thanks!
