Specific Body Part Damage Effects

If Battlefield V is moving towards greater realism than in the past, then I think that it would make sense that getting shot at specific body parts should have different effects on your character. For instance, if you get shot in the arm, your aim should be more difficult to hold. If you get shot in the legs, then your movement speed gets reduced. If you get shot in the head, then you get a dizzy effect like the distorted view in BF1 when you run into gas without a mask.

It doesn't necessarily have to be permanent - maybe it's a temporary effect like when you run into gas in BF1 your view becomes distorted. The effect may only last until your character starts to auto-heal, while these effects are timed regardless of suppression fire on you.

  • I totally agree and I think it would be a really cool addition to the game. However, being shot in the head should in my opinion always result in immediate death, for realism 😉

While this is quite appealing to the hardcore players, i am not sure how it will fit with EA trying to reach as many gamers as they can.

Other games already tried it (the original Operation: Flashpoint/ArmA: Cold War), but the appeal for an actual simulation was rather low. Personally i've enjoyed those games, but i can see how people wouldn't be too thrilled with a harder online experience. Most people would like a quick in/quick out match, without too much fuss added.

How i would see this idea: a hardcore mode for the people that want more realism with dedicated servers for that mode. That way you keep happy all the sides.

  • @swespot But the head could mean you just got a graze. It could also mean you got shot in the face (e.g. the lower jaw), which wouldn't necessarily result in a death IRL.

@ivrognard  It doesn't have to be as extreme as those other games. Maybe just a minor effect on the respective body parts and their functions.

@SterlingARCH3R to be honest the old Operation Flashpoint game was just amazing. The newer ArmA games did not manage to recapture the magic of it. While the ArmA series are quite good, they are not anywhere near as complex as the OpF was. Would be nice if bohemia could get Red Hammer from Codies and integrated in the ArmA: Cold War (which is basically OpF with the Resistance expansion, but missing the Red Hammer campaign, the expansion still being owned by Codies). OpF was a true simulation, but it was truly a hard game, so Bohemia decided to toned it down a bit in the newer ArmA series.

BFV could use this extreme simulation in the War Stories, while in MP would use a toned down model (unless they go with a Hardcore MP Mode and separate servers for that mode).

Looking forward to see how the game is in SP and MP. From those alpha videos, the gameplay seem to be a blast.
