My suggestion would be to get closer and then you can equip them. So next to the other guy you need to be. (don't know his name anymore) So be next to him, then equip. Also don't forget to look at everything. Barrels, alarm and so on. Otherwise game does not continue. Sometimes going to fast with binoculars. Cheers, I had the same problem but just found it is whatever key is bound to 'Danger Ping' in the controls/key bindings/soldier. I think the default may be Q but I had changed that to something else.

I’m on PC and had the same problem. I did find that if I went to trade out one weapon for another, it did seem to “fix” the issue of binoculars being impossible to unequip. I have only tested this fix once, however. YMMV.
