Why are EA so bad at multiplayer games?

Ok so I bought Battlefield V for me and my son. They were only £6 each via cdkeys, so I thought why not. We already own battlefront 2 and know exactly what the EA online experience is on PC, by that I mean basically cheaters on most servers ready to head shot you with aimbots in a blink of an eye. So we had pretty much decided we would concentrate on story modes and setting our own server up, which is something you cannot even do on battlefront 2 for some reason. Anyway, after finishing the story modes we decided to see if online was lke battlefront 2, and after 20 minutes we both quit and went to play watchdogs 2. I mean seriously! I thought battlefront 2 was bad but battlefield V is way worse literally a ground hog day of spawn-headshot-die. How can EA be so bad at stopping cheaters? Other developers do a great job at stopping cheaters and making their games great online experences, but EA well it's absolute rubbish. How can you spend so much time making games look so good and spend so little time making them cheat proof? I will never pay full price for an EA triple A game because of this. Because the EA online experience is so bad then I'm afraid I will be waiting for all your games to be under £10 before I buy them.

  • Hi @zidangus,

I'll try to answer your question without injection my personal biased opinion.

The majority of EA's games use their in house engine called Frostbite. This understandably complicates the integration of well known anti-cheat software ( e.g Easy Anti-Cheat, Valve Anti Cheat ). Beyond that, Dice relied on stat based countermeasures in the past. "Fair fight" is not a real replacement for a real anti cheat, but strong admin tools in addition to third party plugin for self hosted servers made games like Battlefield 3 and 4 somewhat playable on PC.

Dice promised that they will improve their anti cheat for the upcoming Battlefield 2042. I personally think that anti cheat in Battlefield will improve in the future. Battlefield 2042 will be the first game in the series that features crossplay. Console players will not be amused if the cheater problem persists.
