College Football 26 Recruiting/Offseason Wish List

I made a Dynasty Wish List a few months back. But now I want to dive deeper in the recruiting and offseason aspects of Dynasty Mode.

Recruiting

First I love the variety of recruits that come through dynasties. 4000 plus a year is pretty awesome. That being said, I think there is room for improvement to this part of the game.

  • Auto Recruiting is pretty terrible
    • I don't use it too often, but recently, I have done some carousel dynasties where I start as a coordinator somewhere and let the HC handle recruiting. The AI logic for the user team is no where close to accurately filling in team needs. This needs to be tuned similar to how madden tuned its draft logic a few years back.
    • Not just user auto recruiting logic, but the CPU team recruiting logic needs to be overhauled as well. Why does a team have 12 QBs on their roster? This is one example, but there are times where teams have tons (10+) good (80+) players at 1 position group. Most of those guys will never play for that team, but they can play almost anywhere else in the country. There should be logic to either prevent teams from over recruiting positions where only 1 or 2 guys play, or added logic for the guys bogged in the depth chart to transfer to another school.
  • Dynamic deal breakers
    • Piggy backing off of my last point (this was also mentioned in my dynasty mode wish list) a player's deal breaker should change throughout their career. Some of the top recruits and players (85+ or 4/5 Star) should have more than 1 deal breaker. This would add some depth and story telling throughout the dynasty.
    • As guys improve, their deal breakers should change with them.
    • Add Loyalty to Coach or to Program as a Deal breaker/player trait (more on this later.)
  • Prospect Designs
    • There is a ton of variety, I definitely, don't think I have seen the same player design repeated. But I have NEVER seen a player with long hair or dreads out the back of their helmets.
  • Recruiting Hours
    • I really don't have many specific things for this. The mix between being active and set it and forget it is nice, but I feel like it is lacking.
    • I appreciate not having to make a phone call for every player each week, but there are still some things that I think should be a little more specific.
    • The recruiting actions themselves are pretty bland and there UI does not really give a good tell as to how certain actions affect a prospects interest.
    • I think there should be some freedom as to which pitches we target when hard selling/soft selling or swaying. Maybe each pitch should be 10-15 hours instead of 20-40 to hard sell or what not.
  • Abilities
    • There needs to be a revamp on which abilities prospects have. Most linemen have the same abilities or none at all, but there isn't a lot of variety. This goes for other positions as well.
  • Visits
    • Also mentioned this in my dynasty wish list, but visits could be overhauled as well.
    • I actually like the visit system from older NCAA games than this one. Old games, you could chose a couple of activities for your recruit to do instead of just one.
    • Need to be able to schedule complimentary visits within the same position groups.

Offseason

The Offseason is fine, but could also use some more improvements.

  • Transfers
    • We should be able to see the players who are potential transfer risks for all schools without needing a coaching perk. That is typically public knowledge throughout the season.
    • We should be able to encourage transfers during the players leaving stage, not just at the end of the offseason. Too many players simply disappear from the game where the encourage transfer is now.
      • If we have a young emerging player we want to start the following year, we should be able to encourage the capped out upperclassman to transfer at the beginning of the offseason.
    • When encouraging transfers, we should be able to see their player cards. There is no option to see everything. Player caps and development trait are probably huge factors for players when encouraging transfers.
    • Players should follow coaches in the carousel if there is a dealbreaker or real attachment to the coach that moves. This goes with the player loyalty trait I mentioned before.
  • Offseason Development
    • The better your coaching staff the more your team should develop. I'm sure this is how it is now, but there is no measurable way to see the development. Older games would show +# to each attribute. That should be added. Not just the + or Green arrow
    • Players do gain/lose weight during the offseason. Allow us to have a training system that targets something for each position. Maybe we want our WR room to focus on Med Route Running, they should see a boot in that attribute. Maybe we want our DEs/Edge rushers to focus on Finesse, they should see a boost in speed and maybe they cut a few pounds. The redshirt freshmen should gain weight and see more improvement than the 5th string junior DT going into his senior year.
  • Spring Game
    • Set this up like a madden preseason game where each quarter different parts of the depth chart play. Even better, give us the option to customize how the spring game is played. 1 O vs 1 D, 1 O vs 2, 2 O vs 1 D, 3's vs 3s.

Overall this is just a simple list, I'm sure I missed somethings, but feel free to let me know what you guys think. What else should be added/changed. What am I completely missing?

I think some of this has been addressed from what I have seen so far. I think dynamic dealbreakers are in 26 which is a huge plus. Also have seen things about the transfer portal being way more chaotic for 26 as well.

I can't wait to get the game. The next 7 weeks are gonna be long!

  • Love this. I 100% agree on your point about dealbreakers. They need to be dynamic. **bleep** near every player going into their junior/senior year needs to have a playing time dealbreaker. Every upperclassman QB should. Certain positions like RB and WR where multiple guys play can have less. And the AI should be smart enough to recognize if that player is projected to play a lot going into the next year.

The transfer portal also needs to be better. The best players shouldn’t automatically have a locked out top 5. And the amount of players in the portal gets lower and lower as your save goes on. It shouldn’t be too hard to program it so that elite, overachieving players on smaller schools hit the portal for bigger programs. And likewise, underachieving players who get passed up on bigger programs transfer down for PT.
