Issues since patch, plus penalties needing adjusted
Since the patch, here are a few issues I have noticed. I have bolded the ones that are in urgent need of being addressed because of their effects on the overall enjoyment and functionality of the game:
- Previously, roughing the kicker was a problem and supposedly addressed. However, since the last patch, it is worse than ever. Before, if you called punt return in any direction against any punt formation without the swinging gate, your man on the weak side would fly around the edge and get close to roughing the kicker or rough the kicker frequently. Since the latest patch, now its both sides. So if you take the guy from the weak side to keep him from doing it, you now have to worry about the strong side too. It takes so much focus that you don't have time to actually return the kick. Field goals are roughing frequently too. I see at least one roughing a game. I had two roughing the kickers in back-to-back punts in my last game, both on punt return not punt block.
- Outside runs/Options are getting a holding penalty about 40% of the time. I'm not exaggerating.
- Additionally, since the patch, option pitches are much more often going way behind a player for a 15 yard fumble and it won't let the RB pick it up in those instances either.
- Schedules were already messed up but you could schedule okay in smaller dynasties. However, in my last off season, I wasn't allowed to change a single game for any of the three teams. I would even regenerate the schedule having the CPU create it and it wouldn't even accept its own changes. This needs patched as scheduling is very important in keeping balance in online dynasties.
- Since the patch, wear and tear is taking close to 20 attribute points off each attribute for any banged up player. Given the rate at which players, especially RBs and DLs enter the wear and tear, it's really problematic. I had a game where I basically had to bench my top two WRs, my starting TE, starting RB, staring QB and starting RE because all had wear and tear active and were as effective as an FCS walkon. It nearly cost me the game. I have also had it where I basically ran out of RBs because all entered wear and tear or suffered long term injuries because of wear and tear.
Unrelated to the patch, some penalties are in need of adjustment and have been in need since the game launched or even before it launched:
- Illegal contact is ridiculous. You can't even graze a guy after five yards or they'll call it. I had one where they called a middle screen and a wide receiver engaged my LB to block him and they called my LB for making contact with that WR who was blocking him. I had another where they threw to the outside. I tried to direct my player toward where the ball was going but a receiver who wasn't the target was blocking my path. I bumped him and got called for illegal contact. I also had it where the computer threw a deep ball and I was running but slowing up a bit to time my jump for an interception. The WR ran into my back and I got called for illegal contact. Meanwhile, I've never seen the computer called for it even when I miss a catch because the defender blocked my path to the ball or bumped me.
- Offensive pass interference is being called when wide receivers block corners 45 yards from where the ball is being thrown. I notice it most on attempted half back passes. The slot receiver will block the corner to give the RB time to throw. The RB will throw 45 yards down field and go for a TD and they bring it back for that slot receiver blocking as offensive pass interference.
- I have played Madden since 2016 and now CFB25. I have never seen the CPU called for intentional grounding. I've reported it multiple years in Madden, nothing fixed. Now it's also in CFB25. It is very annoying because it can be costly especially late in a game where a sack would end it but they just chuck it out of bounds from the center of the pocket. Or even worse, they chuck it out of bounds from the center of the pocket just before my DE hits them and I get called for roughing the passer. Earlier I was playing, they were trying to score before half. Ball on the 5. I send the house, they snap the ball, see i'm bringing the house and immediately throw the ball through the uprights on three straight plays which allowed them to save the time that a sack would cost and avoid any turnover that could come from that sack or pressure and then kicked a field goal.
- I'll probably regret saying this, but I think I've only seen one facemask in well over 100 games
Other issues:
- In Gun Duos Over (if I'm not mistaken), the option reverse glitches out maybe 40% of the time. The WR that is supposed to do the reverse action will not move the entire play and it will revert to a normal option, which usually gets blown up.
- In team builder, if you add a third jersey and beyond, it will default to Nike even if you've selected Adidas or UA as your sponsor.
- Team builder teams inherit the location of the team they've replaced rather than their actual location. For example, if you put that your team is located in Los Angeles, CA and then replace Florida State, for recruiting purposes, proximity to home will be measured from Tallahassee, not Los Angeles.
- When using custom conferences, if you make divisions and enter the names, division 2 has to be entered twice before it will stick.
