Out of bounds hurdle

When the ball carrier hurdles a defender and their player model is out of bounds but not touching the line they are ruled out of bounds. In real life no ball carrier is ruled out of bounds unless any part of their body touches the boundary marking or any object outside the field of play. 

The play seen in the picture below was ruled dead due to this
