Blocking

I don’t have much to gripe about this year, but I do think blocking is broken. Especially if there is a blitz. So many times, a left or right tackle will just let the edge rusher run free without even bothering to touch him. I had one time where the left tackle went in to double team the defensive tackle who was already being blocked and let the edge rusher fly straight to the QB. There’s no way a straight drop back pass out of shotgun was designed that way.

I don’t know what needs to happen, whether it’s an awareness bug or just a blocking scheme bug, but it’s the only extremely frustrating thing this year that desperately needs to be addressed.

  • Amen to this- I always had a run-first offense and I can't do anything this year. Only way to consistently not get stopped for no gain is to run against a 4 man box (i.e. no linebackers) and even then the DE often gets a tackle behind the line.

  • For sure! It’s so bad. And on passing plays, if a TE is covering a DE but going out on a route, the T will completely ignore that the DE exists. I am baffled by how much they got blocking wrong this year.

  • So, after their last update it got even worse, lol. Can someone explain to me why EA devs think that a guard is going to completely ignore a DT on a dive play? Or why they think a FB is going to stop and run straight to the left to block an outside linebacker on a HB lead dive? Where are those guys supposed to be, Devs? Who are they actually supposed to block? If you don’t know, maybe you should ask someone, because I can tell you it’s not who you apparently think they block.
