Playing Time doesn’t factor in the players leaving

I have my redshirt freshman quarterback ready to start this season (totally reasonable and realistic situation). Yet, I find him in the players leaving before the season due to playing. That makes no sense to have the players next in line complain at the end of the season about playing time.
