Player abilities decreases

We are in season 6 of a 1 star dynasty rebuild. I picked up a 3 star sophomore with star development in portal hes junior in this season was able too get his downhill too platinum in training before season i redshirted him now week 8 and i noticed his downhill has now decreased too silver. How does this happen EA????????
