PC Stability Issues – Crashes to Desktop & Full System Freezes

 

Hello EA Team,

I’m experiencing frequent stability issues on the PC version of College Football 27.

The game will sometimes crash to the desktop, and other times it will completely freeze my PC, forcing me to hold the power button to restart. The crashes most commonly occur after finishing a game and returning to the main menu, after simulating halftime in Dynasty, or while entering an online game at the team selection screen. I can also spend over an hour in Practice Mode without any issues, but the game often crashes during menu or game transitions.

My PC Specs:

  • Ryzen 7 9700X
  • NVIDIA RTX 3070 (latest Game Ready Driver installed)
  • 32GB DDR5-6000 RAM
  • Windows 11

Troubleshooting I’ve already completed:

  • Updated to the latest NVIDIA Game Ready driver.
  • Repaired the game through the EA App.
  • Reduced graphics settings to Low/Medium.
  • Disabled Ray Tracing.
  • Switched to Fullscreen mode.
  • Disabled CPU Auto OC and returned to stock settings.
  • Verified CPU and GPU temperatures while gaming (GPU stays around 60–70°C, CPU around 80–85°C in Ryzen Master, both within expected ranges).
  • Verified GPU usage is normal during gameplay.
  • Confirmed other demanding games, including Madden 25 and Call of Duty, are stable on the same PC.

I’ve also noticed many other PC players reporting similar DirectX errors, crashes, and freezes on Reddit and the EA forums across different GPU brands, which makes me think this may be a broader PC stability issue rather than a hardware problem.

My question is:
Is EA aware of these PC crash and freeze issues, and is a hotfix or stability patch currently being worked on? If so, is there any estimated timeline for when players can expect an update?

Thank you. I really enjoy the game and just want to be able to play it reliably on PC.

    I have not been able to play the game because of freezing. I create my player in Road To Glory, and when I try to load into my first career game the game crashes every time. I recreated a couple of times and it happened again and again. I created a 4th and 5th player too trying to do save points before loading into my first game and the saves weren’t even working. I want to play but the game is so unstable and I can’t do anything. I may end up returning because this is a mess.

    I couldn't have wrote up the issue any better than you have. I freeze / crash every 5-10 minutes or so, with some extended periods of gameplay lasting longer but then it starts up again. This was the same exact issue madden 26 had.

    I can't even get past the main menu screen. It constantly refreshes with that annoying **bleep** music.... I've tried to repair it, uninstall and reinstall it. Nothing works.

    if you on pc with controller unplug and replug your controller on the main menu. It fixes mine.

    no problems for me and I am really enjoying the game so far.  I played 8-9 games online Road to College Playoffs love that mode! One offline dynasty mode cool! No Crashes no Freezes none of that!

    To anyone still wondering…I had this issue…I had an undervolt on my gpu…it worked for madden and all my other games. Cfb does not like undervolts. I simply took it off and like magic my game was working fine. I was getting an extra 10 fps but apparently cfb and undervolting is a no go.

    ControllerCry​ The 3070 may be contributing to your problem due to its 8GB of VRAM, as opposed to the 12GB minimum. Please read the system requirements before installing games in the future. Technically, the last bit goes for anyone else in the thread with below-spec VRAM as well. While I stand corrected about the GPU being your main issue after checking a few things out (where's the strikethrough shortcut EA? "May ..." had been "is".), it may still be playing a role, especially if you're above 1080p res. Speaking of, what resolution are you using?
