Cap Breakers (needs a tweak)

The cap breakers is a nice twist to building the attributes of the avatar player in Road to Glory.  However, the decision to limit the number of cap breakers to 25 needs reevaluation.  If you play exceedingly well, you may well be stymied in your career development as a 96 overall level player, with a ton of tokens and cap breakers earned to upgrade the attributes further, but because every single attribute needs a cap breaker to further advance it, and because you can only use 25 cap breakers, you must play out two or so years without being unable to further improve your player.

This is totally unrealistic in how collegiate talent is developed.  Frankly, if a player earns an overall attribute limit of 99, such as my avatar player earned as a sophomore QB, then he should not be stymied in development at level 96.  This cap breaker system needs to be tweaked by upping the number of cap breakers one can actually use.

    Hey, there.

Thanks for taking the time to lay this out. I dig where you're going with this one. It sounds like your main concern isn't the Cap Breaker system itself, but that it starts limiting long-term player progression once you've invested enough time into a Road to Glory career. Am I right?

Reaching a 96 OVR with additional tokens and Cap Breakers available, but no longer being able to meaningfully develop your player, is helpful context. We'll make sure this feedback around the 25 Cap Breaker limit and long-term progression gets shared with the team.

Out of curiosity, if the limit were adjusted, what do you think would feel like the right balance? Would increasing the number of usable Cap Breakers be enough, or would you rather see the limit scale as your player progresses through their college career?

  • Your conclusion about my concern is accurate.  It is primarily that your development is stymied not due to the lack of success on the field, but instead to an arbitrary limit on the number of cap breakers.

In my view, a limit of 25 is clearly inadequate.  I think a limit of 30 might strike the right balance.  In my view, if your quality of play earns a 99 overall attribute level, then that should be achievable.  But, perhaps the better result would be that the tokens you earn are based on quality of play, and the cap breakers represent an artificial limit.  While you can earn cap breakers through records and achievement, it seems to me that a simpler system is one based on tokens, not cap breakers.

Any update on the cap breakers fix for not allowing us to use them? I have all available and it won't allow me to use it.

  • I noticed an even bigger issue with the cap breakers with the new TE position I’ve already unlocked all 25/25 cap breakers in my sophomore season on Heisman difficulty but as soon as I did they have a glitch that won’t let me use them now so I have 17 cap breakers out of the 25 I haven’t used and they won’t let me use them my abilities say I need a cap breaker which I have

Ken_Stallings Thanks for expanding on this. I get where you're coming from. Just so I am clear, as I do not want to assume: your concern isn't really about earning the upgrades—it's about reaching a point where your on-field performance has earned more progression, but the cap breaker limit prevents you from continuing to develop. I ask because when I send feedback, I like to be as clear as possible in my notes.

I also like that you offered an alternative instead of just pointing out the limit. The idea of leaning more on performance-based tokens, or increasing the cap breaker limit to better match long-term player development, gives the team something concrete to consider. I appreciate you taking the time to explain the reasoning behind it.

Seems your latest software update allowed the remaining cap breakers I had on hand to be used.  However, no further cap breakers are being awarded.  For example, named national POW and no cap breaker awarded despite the same achievement earning them earlier in the career.

So, this still caps my attribute level at 96.
