C&C Generals won't play on windows 8.1

OK, I spoke with customer service. for Windows 8 in the orgin app go to my games, right click on game, go to properties and in command bar type -w then check box to disable origin

this will fix game and you will be able to run it. Hope this helps y'all

I can confirm that darcrysd1974's solution works, at least for me on Win 8.1 x64.

Don't forget to put the dash (-) in front of the W

I typically only lurk for these issues, but I love this game so much that I had to thank you guys for the fix. The "-w" fix works, and my gratitude is immense. You're a scholar and a gentleman, good sir.

I don't have much clue about Generals, but what does the -w do? Is it window mode?

Not sure. The official launchers pass notoriously few parameters on to the game. It might be a parameter for the game launcher itself...

Yea it could be something like this, I guess i will have to try it out on my own to see what it does 🙂

If it turns out to be window mode then it should be possible to run the game in full screen too with a tiny fix... it might be the same problem as the older games have
