Essentially, deleting the font and reinstalling it from here fixed the problem for me - http://www.moddb.com/mods/c-and-c-tib-war-3/downloads/the-scrin-font

Actually deleting the font was not easy - I had to change ownership of the file in order to delete it.

I suggest people check whether they have this font installed, and whether it displays correctly in Microsoft Word.
