^^^^^ This solved the problem for me on a Windows 7 Ultimate x64 machine ^^^^^
There were 2x copies "dbghelp.dll" in my Zero Hour folder, nuking both fixed it.
God help anyone that uses EA chat help....
Same thing for me this is just ridiculous. Shouldn't have to jump through hoops to play something we payed for.
After trying on and off for months/years, I have FINALLY got Generals and Zero Hour to work on Win7/10 from the Origin "Command and Conquer Ultimate Collection".
I found this thread while trying to Google an answer as to how to get it to work, and was somewhat shocked to find it is a years old issue, and still getting posts just a week ago :O
Anyway, here's how I got it to work... which may work for some others who still find this thread while searching for an answer:
1. Go to C: (or whatever drive your user home folder is on) --> Users --> <your user name> --> My Documents --> Command and Conquer Generals Data
2. In that folder, there should be an options.ini file; open it with notepad etc.
3. Find the line "Resolution = 800 600" (the default resolution) and change 800 600 to match your screen's resolution. Save.
4. Do the same with the options.ini file in the Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour Data folder.
5. Generals and Zero Hour will now both run! (Well, they do for me now, after changing those settings).
It would make sense that changing the resolution in the .ini file would fix a directx problem...... mine was sitting at 1920 1080

Hi, i think it has something to do with HDMI and resolutions and maybe refresh rates.
Started getting this issue when i plugged in new Asus capture box, i wanted to start recording zero hour gameplay, but might need to find another game then.
Worked just fine before i installed this capture box, also other games no issues, so it is this single game so far not working.
This was the game i rely wanted to start records.
Sadly i cant find any ways to modify the settings in my version, i am using the First decade, every game should have separated settings manager.
I have tried other compatibility modes, same error.
My hardware is fine, since all other games work.
