Oh and also i have managed to play the earliest 'covert operations' and 'red alert 1' without a problem so i dont understand why i only get this issue with red alert 2? red alert 2 is the only game i get this error message for. I dont understand.
thanks,

Hi, can you try running in XP compatibility mode? Also, make sure that you have all the exes in the RA2 folder set to run as admin.

Hi yes i have changed the properties of all the exes and desktop short cut to XP S3 and run as admin. It still comes up with fatal string. Any other ideas? really annoying as its my fave game!

Oh dear. If the admin mode fix isn't working, can you try going to Control Panel>User Accounts> Change User Account settings.
Try setting this slider to the lowest and see if this has any effect.

Hmm. In case something glitched first time, try uninstalling, restarting Origin explcitly in admin mode, then install it again.

Ok so shall i uninstall origin and then install origin as admin? and then run origin as admin and then install red alert 2 and run that as admin?
thanks

You can do that, but just installing RA 2, then restarting Origin in Admin mode before reinstalling may suffice.

Nope still comes up with that error ☹️

Hmm, I generally want to try fix issues without resorting to unofficial patches, but there's one mentioned in this thread that may help.
However it isn't an official EA one at all.
