Generals keeps Freezing

I just got the ultimate collection and I have a windows 7 system with okay specs. However every couple of seconds Generals will freeze up when I play. I am playing offline as well. What can I do?

Try downloading the unofficial comunity 1.03 patch from CNCNZ:

Generals has some performance problems, are you by any chance amassing huge armies? SAGE (the game's engine) simply can't handle too many units no matter how good your computer.

This is as the game is starting. even befor ei build one building.
