I can't play Red Alert 2 with 4k screen (changed resolution but it doesn't work)

I cannot play Red Alert 2 with my 4k laptop. I changed resolution but it doesn't work though :'(

Model: MSI GE62 2QF Apache Pro
Problem: Red Alert 2 won't load up (black screen)

  • Hi @zaviroshi

    I do not know to what extent it actually works,but worth trying because there is no other solution.🤔

    You need to go in C:/Origin Origin Games\Command and Conquer Red Alert II you will find RA2.ini.

    In these files you should have a [Video] section, which may or may not have values for ScreenHeight and ScreenWidth, if these do not exist you will need to add them but if they do already exist you will need to change them as follows;

    [Video]
    ScreenHeight=2160
    ScreenWidth=3840

    Using the above settings, the game will run at a resolution of 3840x2160 - many of the menu graphics do not stretch but i think so they will appear with a large black border but once in game this will run as expected.🤔

    I wait your feedback,mate.😉

    Ok, C&C games are old games that were programmed for graphics systems that are very different from today's.

    • Download "ddwrapper" from here.
    • Extract the zip file into your RA2 game directory.  ">drive<:\Program Files (x86)\Origin Games\Command and Conquer Red Alert II"
    • Open the configuration file "aqrit.cfg" with a text editor (e.g. the Windows "Editor")
    • Change the value from "ForceDirectDrawEmulation" to "1" > Save!
    • Test the game.

      Thanks to @Nyerguds for this solution.

    @zaviroshi

    Please create a DxDiag in text file format and post it with your next reply.

    Also go to your Reliability monitor > Press the Windows key and "R" at the same time and copy and paste or type "perfmon /rel" (without the quotes) in the new Window > hit “ENTER” and look if it has entries for the game you have trouble with.

    If yes double click at the last entry for the game executable, copy the info to the clipboard, and save it to a text file.

    You can attach the DxDiag text file you created (and the “Reliability monitor” text file as well) to your post in the “Reply” window with the “Choose File” button.

    Hey Everyone,

    This post has gotten pretty old. To prevent further necro posting I will be locking this thread.

    Thanks!
