Nod Mission 9 Instant Crash on Win11

I bought the "Command & Conquer™ The Ultimate Collection" EA App version from EA.com a couple months ago when it was just $5. Says it's "for Windows" though I've found it crashes a LOT (I'm using Windows 11). The most frequent trigger is moving an asset to the top of the map. Well, I've managed to complete all the GDI missions (saving often due to the occasional crashes) and am working my way through the Nod missions now.

My problem today is that Nod 9 (Egypt) simply cannot be played! It starts out with a commando prepositioned at the top of the map. As soon as the Kane video ends and the map is shown it crashes before I can do anything at all. Any ideas on how to get past this?

  • Yes, there is in fact a problem in the game engine that tends to make missions crash if you explore too close to the top of a large map, and unfortunately, Nod mission 9 has a flare there, which does that automatically, so you can't even avoid it.

I made a quick fix patch that addresses this issue, along with a bunch of other problems in the game. You can download it here:

    https://www.moddb.com/mods/command-conquer-unofficial-patch-106/downloads/c-c95-tuc-quick-fix-patch-v102

To use it, you will have to overwrite the "C&C95.exe" in your game folder with the correct one from one of the "game-" subfolders, depending on the language in which you installed the game.

It has only been tested on the Steam version, so far, but I believe the EA version is identical.

Note that you might need to disable auto-updates to make this work; it's possible that otherwise, the change will be detected and reverted. Another way around this might be to simply rename the C&C95.exe from the fix pack to something else (e.g. "C&C95-fix.exe"), and just run that directly. This game doesn't contain any drm anyway, so it should launch fine even without being launched through the EA app.
