Re: C&C General zero hour not working

Hi @juliusfernaldo Thanks for the update, with C&C Generals being an older title I believe it should still have its VC++ installer.

Can you try running all of the VC++ installers you have? If you get prompted to install then do so, if it shows already installed select the 'repair' option.

Restart your device, and check if this error continues.

  • Thank you and thanks for trying to help. For someone who is not really IT orientated though, I'm really confused what you mean XD. Visual C++? How do you do this? I ran all updates I believe you are referring but it's still not working.  I'm still confused why this has all happened simply because had to delete Origin and move to an EA app. I have games on the EA app that are a lot older than Command & Conquer ( 90s games ) and they are all still working.

Hey @juliusfernaldo No worries, I'm not sure what might have happened when you moved to EA App, but the error in regards to a miss dll is a missing windows file.

DLL are a library that contains code and data that can be used by more than one program at the same time. Typically a windows program known as VC++ is having an issue when you have a DLL error.

To confirm when following the steps above, you should have gone to the game's installation location (something like):

C:\Program Files\EA Games (might say Origin Game)\Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour

In your games install folders you would have gone to the following locations

    • C:\Program Files\EA Games\Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour\__Installer\vc\vc2005sp1\redist
    • C:\Program Files\EA Games\Command and Conquer Generals Zero Hour\__Installer\vc\vc2010sp1\redist

And run both of the "vcredist_x64.exe" and "vcredist_x86.exe" files. If you are prompted to install then install the application, if it shows already installed then you would select the repair option

Just wanted to confirm if this is the steps you took?

  • Thanks again for trying to help. Yes, I ran all of these and just in case ran again. Same issue and same error that is coming up. I looked at another forum and I can see lots of people are having this same issue with Command and Conquer Zero Hour with the change of app. Not sure if I noted before, but within the app I cannot click on Zero how - the properties button doesn't even come up which I saw some other people are also having.

The only thing that has changed since running VC++ is now within the EA app, it is saying ''game failed to launch, try later''. Before, it just wouldn't start, and continually just kept restarting to EA app.

@juliusfernaldo I am still having the same problem. It kept saying "An error on our end caused your launch to fail. Try again a little later."

    Hi @nickylax @juliusfernaldo

Thanks for trying those steps, to check has the EA App given any other error message outside of the "Failed to launch" one?

Also, would it be possible to get a DxDiag?

@EA_Illium Yes. It says Your game failed to launch.

An error on our end caused your launch to fail. Try again a little later.
  • For me it just doesn't open. It just continually keeps restarting the EA App.

If possible, share a Screenshot or Clip...

If on PC, please share a DxDiag

    Cheers!

  • Hi everyone.

Another one here with the same problem.

I sent an issue to the EA Error reporter but haven't gotten anything back.  So here i am on the forums.

Issue started 3/26/2023.  I was going to play a game of Generals Zero Hour with some old friends.  Previously there were no issues as the game ran fine in Origin.  Since Origin is gone, I had to upgrade to the EA App.  EA app Install Was fine and the games installed fine also.  Note my 2 friends were able to run the game after they installed the EA App.

Note that I have tried this on 2 COMPUTERS thus far.

Initially, when trying to run the game, I got the error stating that it was an error on EA's end, try again later.

    I searched other fixes.

    I reintalled the EA App

    I reinstalled the game

    I repaired the game

I ran the EA App in Administrator mode

I ran the game in Administrator mode.

    I have 'repaired' the game

I have cleared the cache for the App.

    Nothing works.

Why were we forced to upgrade from Origin to EA when everything was working fine?

Currently, all the game does is it prompts whether I grant adminstrative privileges to run the game.  I click yes and the EA app minimizes and a small EA window pops up briefly.  Then it disappears and the App comes back maximized and the game does not run.

It is very frustrating as I do still game with old friends cross-country to play Generals/Zero Hour.  Please help.  Otherwise, I'll take a refund and attempt to re-purchase the game.

    Thanks.

If the game still doesn't work for you, please disable EA App in-game overlay. The game had a similar issue using Origin and you also had to disable the Origin in-game overlay back then to make it start. I think that due to the upgrade to EA App, the in-game overlay was set back on.

  • Hi everyone. Not sure if this helps but Command and Conquer Tiberium Wars is also not working. Exactly the same issue as Zero Hour. All other games work as normal.

Ok thank you ^^ how do you disable it? I have my friend who’s a software engineer at Microsoft trying to work this out for me and he’s been as baffled as me with this EA app screwing everything.

Also, Community Manager previously suggested running in compatibility mode once all drivers were installed - I got my mate to do this. It still comes up when I run it in this mode missing  ''ssleay32.dll''?' File.

However,, upon my mate checking, I definitely had this file installed. So something is not talking to something.

  • I removed the Overlay, cleared the cache, repaired the game, and ran everything as administrator but still does not work.

    Frustrating.

Hi - thank you all for trying to solve this - but unfortunately as can be seen no solution has been found. All my friends are also now having the same problem.

How can we get EA to look at this directly - this has been months now? Does anyone have any suggestions? As can be seen - everyone has already raised a ticket and it’s been ignored. Please if anyone can suggest something much appreciated - going into long weekend with still no working game…

To be very honest I am very very disappointed in EA now. Nothing has been resolve. By posting something here, EA people should be seeing this right? But nothing is done. And so many games are not working. Why when things are doing fine and we have to keep changing to other apps to start the game? Is this upgrade or downgrade?

  • Hi everyone, I have found a temp solution and I managed to launch the game.

    Use this YouTube video: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=aizf2P4HkwM

    1) Uninstall EA app

    2) Reinstall Origin

    3) Change the date time of your computer to 13th of Feb , 2023

    4) Launch Zero Hour - ignore the request to update to ea app

This worked but stuffs a lot of other things for my computer. As you can see a lot of people complaining. I have still requested refund and buying elsewhere. EA service is TERRIBLE
