Re: Timer and synch glitch (RA1 saves for TS and Renegade)

Interesting. RA2 and Tiberian Sun were on quite similar engines so I can see why the time tracker could get mixed up there, but Renegade is as different a game as possible.

As for the bit in the middle, am i understanding it properly, it forces a save resync if you install TS or Renegade?

At a guess it sounds like due to the bundle nature of the TUC content these 3 games somehow got the same internal identifier, leading to a duplicated activity tracker and sync prompt.

Thanks for the post, it's a relatively minor issue but hopefully we can get it resolved.

  • When I launch "Tiberian Sun" or "Renegade" it will sychronize all saves from RA1 (of course, they are not visible and won't work). The more interesting thing - saves from RA1 disappear and don't work launching this game. RA2 works correctly with separate time registration and saves. So, for now I don't install "Renegade" and TS.

I advise you to simply disable cloud saves in these games' Origin properties, then. That should fix the savegame problems, at least.

  • Made everything from that page. Same as before.

Tried to launch Origin on another PC with different OS - same effect.

How very strange. Are the games installed to the C drive? It's curious that the issue replicates on a new system, but that I can't seem to replicate here. I'll try on another machine and see if I can recreate it.

  • Initially installed on C drive.

Tried on D because of more space. All the same.

Also the same ammount of time played is displayed in web browser.

Thanks. I'm not too concerned about the same time being displayed as while it's an issue that needs addressing, it's not as impacting as having save files deleted.

I wonder, have you ever had C&C games installed on this system pre-Origin? It seems like a long shot, but I wonder if this is a factor.

For now it seems the workaround is to manually keep a backup of your saves and replace them when you play/install one of the other games, but I'd like to figure out exactly what's happening too.

  • I had "Tiberian Dawn" installed (as it is free), "Generals" and "Red Alert 2" (in Origin) before buying full compilation. First C&C - was not in Origin. All of these games show correct time and have correct save sync.

Thanks., I wonder if you install RA1 to a different drive than the other games, does this have any effect on the issue?

@ButcherGrindslam Thanks for all the steps you've tried. I was finally able to replicate this issue, and I'll try to raise this on my end.

However I wasn't able to replicate this with disabled cloud saves. Can you try disabling it, then create a RA1 save, then open Tiberian Sun and see if the saves are wiped.

By the way I assume you've been making backups of the saves, but if not they are the SAVEGAME.nnn files in Origin Games\Command and Conquer Red Alert.

The cloud sync is writing the Tiberian Sun saves to this file and removing the RA1 saves, so I don't see how the issue persists with Cloud Saves disabled. Do you play on more than 1 system?

  • Reinstalled TS and RA1. Disabled and re-enabled cloud. Saves separately BUT every time annoying window pops out saying my saves on PC are not the same stored in cloud. Timer shows the same ammount of time played still.

I play on different machines. So that's why i bought the compilation to get rid of save transfer routine through USB stick from my main PC to netbook and back.

Thanks for the extra info. It looks like this will need to be addressed by the Origin team, unfortunately the "workaround" for now is to avoid using the cloud saves, and/or be sure to keep backups.

I'm sorry that I wasn't able to find a solution, but thank you for all the steps you've tried.

Command & Conquer 1, Red Alert 1 and Tiberian Sun are all freeware, though. Installing the freeware version should get rid of any savegame-disappearing problems on those games, at least.

Yep, hopefully this should work while the Origin issue still exists.

  • I know that all of them are freeware. Patched RA1 and C&C1 after installing (wtih your patches) 'cause both of games are unplayable in Win7 and above without fixes. Bought the collection to have all in one place and to sync saves. At least, other titles work correctly.

    Waiting for Origin fix.

    Thanks anyway.
