Red Alert 2 Not - ***FATAL** string manager error!

Hi,

I recently purchased and Command and Conquer Ultimate collection and downloaded the Red Alert 2 and Yuri's Revenge expansion pack and it will not work. It downloaded and installed fine, but when I click to play either one of them I get an error message

***FATAL** string manager error!

This has happened before when you originally released, 'C&C The First Decade' collection and was never fixed and now I thought with the re-release of all 17 you would have at least optimized them but I was wrong. I would like some solution to play this game either in the form of a patch or workaround.

I've already tried all the compatibility tabs on the launchers and it failed. I tried some of the official patches and unofficial patches from the first decade release put they do not work nor any other work around from before as this new release repackages the game differently and also it's installation location. I uninstalled and cleaned the registry of all things command and conquer and re-installed and still failed (But seeing as C&C Generals worked I doubted that was the problem). I've restarted Origin, my computer, disabled UAC controls and nothing has rectified the matter.

I'm running A Toshiba Qosmio X500 with a i7 1.79Ghz processor, 8Gb RAM, Nvidia Geforce GTS 300M card and Windows 7.

Ps. I also noticed none of the older games were optimised for a 1080p screen resolution which all PCs nowadays are equipped with. For shame.

Please get back to me as soon as possible with a solution,

Thank you.

I have also bought this done all the trouble shooting guides, trying to play as administrator but still it fails I am running it on win8 though, I went further and reinstalled Origin as well.

    Things I've done-

Run all .exe files in compatibility modes that are available

Run as administrator on all .exe

What I think is the problem is that goes into origin and makes you choose which game to run, which stuffs up run as adman, I could be wrong but at the end of the day I still can't run the game due to this error.

Is there a fix out there for this? Seems to be a common enough problem, maybe I'm missing something. I have a system that meets the minimum requirements and so far Red Alert and Tiberian Sun give me the "FATAL - String manager" message and the ".dlls missing" message, respectively. I've tried compatibility troubleshooting, repairing, updating, running as admin, and nothing has worked yet.

  • Still waiting on a fix for this - I have the boxed game from when it was first released and that worked fine under windows 7 - now I have upgraded to Windows 10 and am trying to run the Origin version of the game and get a Fatal String error message on both RA2 and RA2:YR. Any help from EA on their own forums for a game breaking issue would be appreciated. (Listed my PC specs below incase they might be of importance)

    Intel i7 4790K (@ Stock 4.0GHz)
    ASUS Z97M-Plus
    Gainward GTX 770 2GB
    16GB Corsair Vengeance @ 1600MHz

Windows 10 (most up to date release)
