Red Alert 2 will not start on Win7 64 bit (C&C Ultimate Collection)

Edit: - I have posted this again in the C&C section - apologies to admins for doubling-up.

I can see this question has been asked before but nothing works for me when trying to start RA2 on Win7 64bit.

I am not having any trouble with C&C3, C&C4, Red Alert 3 or the older C&C and RA1.

When starting RA2 I receive the error: "***FATAL*** String Manager failed to initialize properly."

Solutions I have tried and have not worked include: Running as administrator; compatibility with earlier Win options; disabling origin overlay; repairing install; trying to run from in the folder; using unofficial launchers (links from the EA site). Found some suggestions to edit the RA2.ini but as the game will not start the ini has not generated, (made one myself but no luck).

Something is blocked right at the start - a permission or privilege? I have also read the game should be installed as an Admin - how do I do this on Origin? Hoping possible solutions do not include re-downloading the game!

Thanks in advance for any help 😕mileywink:

EDIT: Subject line - game is part of the C&C Ultimate Collection

  • For Red Alert, please go to the Origin Games section then into the RA folder, then choose to run the game in Windows XP SP3 Compatibility mode.

Also try disabling the Origin in-game overlay. To do this, click "Origin" in the top left of the client, then Application Settings. Then open the Origin In Game tab and untick the box.

    Thank you for your reply.

Unfortunately this has not worked, with the same 'string error' message as soon as I pick RA2 from the launcher.😕mileysad:

Thanks yahel_1 for your time with this.

I posted this topic in the Command and Conquer section, (should have done this in the first place 😕mileyembarrassed🙂, and I have found a solution - its the same fix for Tiberium Sun. The game fails to register blowfish.dll.  Its a small file that has fixed my issue. Apologies, I am not sure how to link to the other post, but for anyone else stuck with a similar issue see my topic - Red Alert 2 will not start on Win7 64 bit (C&C Ultimate Collection) - in the C&C Ultimate Collection section.

Thanks to FunkyFr3shCnCNet  for making the fix and pointing me in the right direction. Thankyou again yahel_1.
