Red Alert 2 works for about one min then freezes entire computer

I have tried launching on two different computers; turning off all anti-virus and firewalls; running in compatibility mode for different versions of windows on game.exe and ra2.exe; re-installing; and the "try to connect anyway on :VGA" extend desktop trick I have read about. The dang thing still freezes my computers to the point of needing a hard reset. Please help.
