Red Alert 3 - Windows 7 64 bit - Sound but No Video

As titled, I have tried to run Red Alert 3 1.12 on a windows 7 64 bit home OS withteh result of the game launching past the splash screen as normal, going full screen, hearing sound of the game running but no video appearing on screen.

Have tried various fixes including compatibility modes, directx SDK (march 2008) install with hardware acceleration on (both 32 and 64 bit as detailed in primary post on here), admin on/off with the result either being a failed string for anything earlier than XP or the above for anything beyond and including XP.

Help would be appreciated, I would prefer to not need to upgrade my OS to be bale to run XP mode but if there is no other choice no matter the pain or annoyance then I might just have to.

  • This seems more like a drivers issue to me. Did you try updating your motherboard / sound card drivers?

On Board Sound so no sound card to update. Will look into the motherboard but since this is a new build would updating the motherboard really solve the issue?

And thanks for the help. I appreciate it alot.

Updated BIOS for motherboard, tried different compatibility modes including troubleshoot compatibility and still the same issues as before. Get sound through fine, no video though.

Even onboard audio on the motherboard will still have audio drivers. I'm not talking about a BIOS update, just one of the various drivers that are probably on the CD that came with your motherboard. Well, the drivers on those CDs are often outdated. Learned that the hard way when I bought a new PC :-\

Given the fact the sound works, though, I'd rather think you'd need to update your video drivers.

    Ah, right. Makes more sense.

I'm wary of updating graphics card drivers given there usually a hit and miss affair in regards to stability. Will give it a go anyway, can always roll back if I get any problems Will reply back with an update in a bit.
